A danger driver who drove the wrong way on a dual carriageway and reached speeds of up to 120mph taunted officers that they couldn't catch him - but he couldn't get away from a police dog. Liam Facey led police on a dangerous chase for 20 miles which resulted in the force helicopter having to be deployed as he drove at ridiculous speeds in wet conditions. He also hurt a police officer after ramming his door when he tried to block him in, trapping his leg. After finally abandoning his BMW, police dog Ziva tracked him down to some bushes and he was arrested, at which point he boasted: "You couldn't catch me. "I don't care about prison, I've just done 18 months, I will be out soon enough and will do it again". The court heard the chase took place between South Shields and Durham in the early hours of June 12. … [Read more...] about 120mph danger driver taunted cops they couldn’t catch him
On 6 August last year, 14 immigrant farmhands in Foggia, on the ankle of the Italian boot, were coming home from a 12-hour shift picking tomatoes in 40C heat. The entire front third of the vehicle was concertinaed and the roof was ripped open. Bags and clothing spilled out on to the road, and there were large patches of blood on the asphalt. Twelve of the 14 labourers died. Only two days before, also in Foggia, four labourers had died in a similar accident: 16 dead in 48 hours. In the Italian south, the lives of foreign agricultural labourers are so cheap that many NGOs have described their conditions as a … [Read more...] about Are your tinned tomatoes picked by slave labour?
