Scientists are investigating a mysterious "solar hedgehog" seen on the surface of the Sun. The European Space Agency (ESA) has revealed a trove of images captured by its Solar Orbiter . NASA and the UK Space Agency also contributed to the project. After passing within the orbit of Mercury, the probe was able to capture images of the solar hedgehog, a solar flare, the Sun's south pole, the Sun's magnetic activity and a full view of the Sun. David Berghmans, from the Royal Observatory of Belgium, described the images of the lower layers of the Sun's atmosphere as "really breathtaking". Advertisement He said it would take years to wade through all the data and figure out what was going on. The solar hedgehog is a newly observed feature, and no one is quite sure how or why it forms. Brit family travel to Brazil for dentist appointment because its cheaper than UK
A British family said they have been forced to travel to Brazil for a dentist appointment and said it's cheaper than the UK. The Woodmanseys said they travel 6,000 miles from Yorkshire just so they can get a check-up after struggling to get seen by the NHS . Stuart, 43, came up with the solution as an alternative to spending £1,000 on private treatment in the UK. Instead, the security consultant takes his wife Kedma, 41, and their son Jacob to the dentist in Kedma’s home city of São Paulo, when they are meant to be enjoying their holiday. The dad says he last had a check-up abroad just before the pandemic hit, but plans to visit during his next getaway, reports The Sun. The revelation comes after it was found that nine in 10 dental practices were unable to welcome new NHS patients. Stuart, of Market Weighton, East Yorkshire, said: “I can’t get an appointment in our area, I’ve been trying for years. "I have to go in Brazil when we’re there on holiday.” He … [Read more...] about Brit family travel to Brazil for dentist appointment because its cheaper than UK
Grandfather-of-five becomes oldest British climber to scale Everest
A 68-year-old grandfather has become the oldest British climber to scale Everest , after training for his expedition by hiking in the hills of Devon. Graham Keene, from Exeter, beat the previous record held by Sir Ranulph Fiennes , who was 65 when he reached the world’s highest peak in 2009. The grandfather-of-five set the record following a 16-day “flash” expedition that was significantly quicker than normal ascents which can often take months. To avoid the crowds around Everest that might have added extra weeks to his trek, Mr Keene did the majority of his acclimatisation at home in Exeter by sleeping in a hypoxic tent. A machine removed oxygen from the tent and it was dialled up to higher altitudes each night to help acclimatise him to the thinner air of the Himalayas. Upon reaching the summit at 6:30am on May 13, Mr Keene unveiled a flag of his local rugby team Exeter Chiefs, as well as pictures of his grandchildren. Mr Keene’s son Ben said that his father had … [Read more...] about Grandfather-of-five becomes oldest British climber to scale Everest

I hacked into Nasa to find proof of UFOs – I saw cigar-shaped alien craft among thousands of photos & US must come clean
A HACKER who broke into Nasa's computers to find proof of UFOs claims he discovered a picture of a mysterious alien craft shaped like a cigar amongst thousands of other photos. Brit cyber sleuth Gary McKinnon was accused of perpetrating the "biggest military computer hack of all time" when he broke into 97 US government computers. US prosecutors wanted him jailed for up to 60 years, but his extradition from the UK was blocked after a ten-year legal battle and he remains a free man. Now 56, Gary said he did no harm and was merely looking for evidence that US government was actively covering up UFOs . And he told The Sun Online what he found left him "gobsmacked" as he stumbled across thousands of photos during his cyber sting. "It's a fact that there are objects we don't understand flying around in our skies , it's also a fact that there are scientific, intelligence and military departments that study these objects," Gary said. Inside creepy AI that ‘brings dead back to life’ by animating old photos
CHERIE Bergman's eyes welled up as she met her father's gaze for the first time since his tragic death eight years earlier. With one tap of her phone, the Florida Mum was able to see him blink and smile from behind the screen as if he were alive just yesterday. What really knocked Cherie, 25, back on her heels was that this wasn't a replay of an old video. This was something different. She had uploaded a photo of her late parent to MyHeritage, an app that offers the chance to "reawaken" the dead. Using artificial intelligence, it creates short videos that breathe life into the subjects of portraits years or even centuries old. Faces in images are merged over "driver" animations to make the person look as though they are nodding, smiling and more. DISNEY+ has shared details about its cheaper, ad-supported plan ahead of its launch later this year. It comes after bitter rival Netflix announced similar plans as part of a push to lure new subscribers. According to the Wall Street Journal , Disney officials said that they will not run commercials during content aimed at preschoolers. "We’re never going to collect data on individual kids to target them," the company's Rita Ferro told the publication. Games Inbox: PS Plus Premium disappointment, Silent Hill 2 praise, and EA Sports FC predictions
The Tuesday letters page is confused as to how Sony is handling the PS Plus reveals, as a reader hopes a XCOM 3 announcement is imminent. To join in with the discussions yourself email [email protected] Reasonable questions PS Plus announcement from Sony is… kind of bad? Why wouldn’t they announce all the games at the same time? Why is all this being done via low effort blog posts? Why are the PS Plus Premium games so especially bad? How do you start a major new retro service and not have a single PlayStation 2 game? You know, games from the most successful home console ever made? As you can see, I have many questions about the new PS Plus and Sony’s bizarre way of promoting it. I know they weren’t keen on it being compared to Game Pass but, believe me, nobody is doing that right now, because it’s obvious that Microsoft’s take on the same idea is a whole letter better. This just all seems very random and badly organised, like someone’s homework rushed … [Read more...] about Games Inbox: PS Plus Premium disappointment, Silent Hill 2 praise, and EA Sports FC predictions
Strictly Come Dancing’s Bruno Tonioli ‘quits BBC series after 18 years’
Strictly Come Dancing judge Bruno Tonioli has quit the BBC flagship show after 18 years, reports claim. It is believed that the beloved judge, who was forced to miss last year’s series due to Covid travel restrictions, will now focus his attentions on Dancing With The Stars US, in which he also serves as a panellist. Bruno was unable to appear on Strictly in 2021, with professional dancer Anton Du Beke taking his place on the panel alongside Motsi Mabuse , Craig Revel Horwood , and Shirley Ballas . Since then, there has been much speculation as to whether Anton would replace Bruno full time, or whether there would be five judges in a major show shake-up. However, it now appears that Bruno has left altogether. ‘Bruno has quit the show for good,’ an insider said. They added to the Mail: ‘He’s going to be a judge only on Dancing With The Stars from now on.’ In February, reports claimed that bosses were planning to replace long-serving judge Bruno … [Read more...] about Strictly Come Dancing’s Bruno Tonioli ‘quits BBC series after 18 years’
X Factor returning this year amid claims show had been ‘axed’ after 15 years
X Factor will be returning to ITV despite claims it had been axed after 15 years on our screens. According to reports, Simon Cowell is planning on shaking up the whole show, following a dip in ratings over the last few seasons. A source claimed the talent show as we know and love it has ‘100% been axed’, which has now been shut down. ‘It has been 100% axed. The show is done,’ they said. ‘It’s being replaced by a show that’ll only be for celebrities.’ The show in question will mean members of the public won’t be taking part, and so fans won’t be able to ‘see new talent being discovered’. ‘It’s the end of an era,’ the insider told the Daily Star , adding that a dozen members of the production team have also been made redundant. An insider has now told Metro.co.uk the show will still be airing this year, but did not discuss whether the reported changes would be made. ‘The X Factor has not been axed and will be back on ITV later this year,’ they said.
