Franklin Graham: Blackpool bus ad ban ‘breached human rights’
Published 2 April 2021 Share close Share page Copy link About sharing A council breached human rights when it banned adverts for an evangelical Christian event, a court has ruled. Blackpool Borough Council and Blackpool Transport Services removed bus adverts in 2018 for an event in the resort featuring preacher Franklin Graham. Judge Claire Evans said at Manchester County Court the move disregarded "the right to freedom of expression". The council said it remained committed to "promoting equality and diversity [and] eliminating discrimination". 'We are doomed' Franklin Graham, son of the late evangelist Billy Graham, is known for his controversial views on same-sex marriage and Islam. Grubhub promotion of free lunch frustrates some customers after app crash
A much-hyped promotional event for GrubHub went sour, with online reports of app crashes and other issues popping up almost immediately. The popular food-delivery service ran a "Free Lunch" promotion on Tuesday, exclusively for users in New York City. Between the hours of 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., hungry New Yorkers could input the code "FREELUNCH" to get $15 off of qualifying orders. Unfortunately, but perhaps unsurprisingly, the tantalizing offer did not appear to go smoothly for many. Around the time that the promotion went into effect, hordes of Twitter users began reporting technical difficulties, including app or website crashes and messages saying that the code did not work. Some tweets indicated that these difficulties began almost instantly. At 11:26 a.m. EST, the official GrubHub Twitter account appeared to respond to the widespread issues, saying, "y'all were hungry, huh? hang tight - we're on it." "On a real note, our restaurants and drivers are busier than EVER … [Read more...] about Grubhub promotion of free lunch frustrates some customers after app crash
Could Bitcoin crash make El Salvador go BUST? Government has already lost $40m amid plans to build crypto city
El Salvador's The losses - equal to the Central American country's next bond payment - come amid a so-called 'crypto winter' and the president's plans to build a volcano-powered 'crypto city' to mine bit coin. President Nayib Bukele announced in September that El Salvador would become the first country in the world to accept Bitcoins as legal tender and forked out $105 million on the digital currency. But since then its value has fallen 45% amid a general bursting of the crypto bubble, slicing the value of the 2,301 Bitcoins bought by state coffers down to $66 million. The decision to make Bitcoin legal tender has nonplussed bond investors, who see it as exposing the state coffers to the volatility of the crypto market and thus hitting the country's ability to make bond payments. 'It's risky because it's an extremely volatile asset, and it's an investment that is totally at the discretion of the president,' Bloomberg report former El Salvador Central Bank Chief Carlos … [Read more...] about Could Bitcoin crash make El Salvador go BUST? City red tape will make a crash more likely – whatever the ‘experts’ say
Sir Vince Cable, the man who famously saw the financial crash coming years before anyone else. Prof Adam Tooze, the furiously busy Columbia University historian. Yanis Varoufakis, the leather jacket-wearing former Greek finance minister, Sir John Kay, the former dean of Oxford’s Said Business School, and a host of professors from Durham, the LSE and Nottingham. It would be hard to assemble a better list of the great and the good, nor a collection of individuals with more knowledge of the way the financial system works. When 58 of them all write to the Chancellor to warn him that plans to deregulate the City risk triggering another financial crash, people will inevitably listen. All the self-appointed "experts" would do is hold back the City at precisely the moment when it needs to reinvent itself following our departure from the European Union – and take the fight to Paris, Frankfurt and most of all New York. If we listen to them the British economy will lose a massive … [Read more...] about City red tape will make a crash more likely – whatever the ‘experts’ say
China Eastern Airlines crash likely to be result of deliberate nosedive, report says
The crash of a China Eastern Airlines jet might have been deliberate, according to a US report. The Boeing 737-800 crashed into the mountains of Guangxi on 21 March during a flight from Kunming to Guangzhou. All those on board - 123 passengers and nine crew members - were killed. Late on Tuesday, the Wall Street Journal reported that flight data from one of the plane's black boxes indicated that someone in the cockpit intentionally crashed the jet. The report cited people familiar with a preliminary assessment done by US officials, adding that there was no evidence so far of technical problems with the aircraft. Advertisement It is not yet clear whether the investigation's hypothesis is one pilot acting alone, a struggle, or a passenger breaking into the cockpit. But the airline told the Wall Street Journal that a cockpit intrusion was not plausible, citing a news conference in March in which Chinese authorities said there was no emergency code sent … [Read more...] about China Eastern Airlines crash likely to be result of deliberate nosedive, report says
