HAVING had a beer in more than 50,000 pubs, Bruce Masters knows what makes the perfect boozer. Now Bruce, who holds the Guinness World Record for visiting the most bars in Britain, has joined The Sun’s quest to find YOUR perfect pub. We are asking you to nominate your favourite pub and tell us why. We’ll pick the best — and stick £1,000 behind the bar for a great night out. This week we revealed how nearly 1,000 pubs closed down last year — so they need our support. Bruce, 74, a retired railway accountant, tries to visit 20 pubs every week — and always goes by bus or train. His latest outings took him to pubs in London and Essex. Married dad-of-three Bruce, from Flitwick, Beds, says: “We need to stop pubs suffering what happened to the railways in the Seventies. It’s really a case of use it or lose it.” Since 1960 when he had his first pint for a shilling (that’s 5p kids), he has kept a … [Read more...] about Beer fan who’s been in 50,000 pubs names Britain’s best 50 — but does your local make the list?
Tally under group list
The list of players to have scored 20 league goals in a season for Hull City reads like a roll call of goalscoring legends here in East Yorkshire. The gilded names of Ken Wagstaff, Chris Chilton, Keith Edwards, Billy Whitehurst, Dean Windass and Stuart Elliott need no introductions after the predatory exploits and that elite group have now made room for its 26th member. In scoring twice during the 2-2 draw with QPR on Saturday, Jarrod Bowen reached the 20-goal landmark with eight games of this season still to play. Not since Stuart Elliott in 2004-05 have City boasted a more prolific threat but this is already a tally unsurpassed at this level for 28 years. Andy Payton netted 25 league goals in 1990-91 but few would bet against Bowen reeling in another target down the run-in. There is still an outside chance of Bowen winning the Championship’s Golden Boot after moving within three goals of Norwich’s Teemu Pukki but the exploits of the last eight months have confirmed City … [Read more...] about How Jarrod Bowen has joined Hull City goalscoring royalty
To get to 140 points four years ago playing the same profile of teams as they have experienced in recent weeks, they scored nine goals (9-113). In 2019, that goals tally rose to 14 (14-98), illustrating the small but subtle difference in attacking approach adopted by new manager Páraic Fanning. Fanning's succession to Derek McGrath as manager has, so far, been quite seamless. The emotional draw this group of players would naturally have had to McGrath who had been such an influence on them on and off the field has not stood in the way of their desire to progress and develop as a team under a manager who has built up quite a catalogue of experience and clearly has an intimate knowledge of Waterford hurling. He was taking over a group of ambitious players anyway but that ambition has surely sharpened that little bit more after Limerick leapfrogged them to an All-Ireland title last year. When Waterford hosted Galway in the last regulation game 10 days ago, it was noticeable how … [Read more...] about Colm Keys: ‘Fanning providing steady hand for Déise as they pick up pieces from 2018 struggles’

By JACK BLANCHARD Send tips here | Subscribe for free | Listen to Playbook and view in your browser Good Thursday morning. There are 15 days to go until Brexit Day, and still we have no deal. DRIVING THE DAY ULTIMAYTUM: Theresa May will today warn MPs they must pass her Brexit deal within the next six days or face a long delay to Article 50 that may kill off Brexit altogether. Parliament will this afternoon vote on a government motion pledging to seek an extension to Article 50 at next week’s European Council summit, with May warning a two- or three-month delay will only be possible if her deal has been passed by that point. Otherwise, she will say, EU leaders will insist on a much longer extension of up to a year or more, amid strong hints this would need to be accompanied by a new Brexit plan such as a Norway-style departure or a second referendum. The big question now is whether this looming threat will be enough to win her rebel Brexiteers round. Watch this space. Any of … [Read more...] about POLITICO London Playbook: Ultimaytum — This means nothing to me … Vienna — Last night in the madhouse
