Whether to take children out of school in term time causes great discussion among parents and education bosses - and it's an issue that greatly divides families. While some believe it's fine and children rarely miss out on anything vital at the end of the year, others believe every day in the classroom counts. So what are the rules? Well the Department of Education (DoE) says 'headteachers should not grant leave of absence unless there are exceptional circumstances'. With temperatures reaching uncomfortable levels, it is natural parents' thoughts are turning to their children and whether they are going to be able to deal with the heat. Temperatures are expected to nudge to 30 degrees all week in Bristol, with the Met Office and Public Health England issuing a health warning due to the Level 2 heatwave that is hitting the country. Almost half of parents have taken their child out of school to go on holiday, with many saying it is too expensive to go away during the summer break, a poll suggests. As the summer holidays draw ever closer we want to know if you would take your child out of school for a holiday. We're heading for summer and families may be looking to pick up a late-deal holiday for half term. But wait a minute! A quick comparison online shows that the price for a holiday in May can more than double if you want to take it in half-term week. We found one holiday flying out of East Midlands Airport with a popular operator that cost £295 per person for seven days flying out on Sunday, May 20, and this rose to £699 per person if you fly out at the start of half-term week on Sunday, May 27.
