Consumers are threatened with higher mobile phone bills if a £9bn takeover of mobile masts by the Spanish infrastructure empire Cellnex is allowed to go ahead as planned, the competition regulator has warned. Cellnex is attempting to acquire 24,000 sites from CK Hutchison , the owner of the UK mobile operator Three and its sister companies across the continent. The Madrid-listed specialist has rapidly assembled a €35bn pan-European business in recent years by buying masts from networks and renting access back to them. The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said the deal risks giving Cellnex a stranglehold over the market that could lead to higher bills, however. It said it was considering blocking the transaction, or forcing the two companies to sell off some of the masts to a rival. The intelligence agency has been accused of trying to entice a woman, identified only as "Faiza", to spy on a group of possible terror suspects. MI5’s methods to recruit agents - known as Covert Human Intelligence Sources - were made public by a controversial group called Cage, whose research director once described the Islamic State executioner Jihadi John as a “beautiful young man”. A court in Kyiv has sentenced a Russian soldier to life in prison for killing an unarmed civilian in the early days of the Ukraine invasion. The verdict marks the first conviction of a soldier for war crimes since the conflict began at the end of February. Vadim Shishimarin, a 21-year-old tank commander, pleaded guilty to having killed a 62-year-old man in a village in the northeastern Sumy region on February 28, four days into the war. He testified that he had shot the man from an open car window on the orders of two senior officers. Shishimarin also told the court that one of his superiors had insisted the Ukrainian man be shot because he was speaking on his mobile phone at the time, and could have given their location away to Ukrainian forces. During the trial, Shishimarin asked the widow of the victim to forgive him.
