A GRAN who won a court case to stop her neighbour building a holiday park has applied to throw her own one up in her back yard. Patricia Shave, 70, quashed neighbour Paul Body's plan to build 18 homes in his paddock and forced the council to pay her £18,699 in legal costs. She is now seeking planning to build four lets of her own in her garden two and half years after the ferocious row with her neighbour. But son Matthew Shave said his mum, from Marden, Kent, is not a hypocrite and is in fact "testing" the planning system. He told KentOnline : “My mum doesn’t actually want to build the holiday lets – of course she doesn’t. She lives there with my sister. “When we objected to the application, we warned that if the council was prepared to grant permission there, it would effectively be making any patch of open space in the countryside vulnerable to a similar application. Two years on from our ‘immune holiday’, it’s party time for germs. Here’s why
STUFF Influenza is back on tour this winter. But it's just the flu - surely there's nothing to worry about? Not so fast. (first published June 2, 2022) I’m the mother of two young children. I’ve lost the past month to vomiting, sneezing, up-all-night coughing, snot, snot, and more snot. It’s not Covid. And that’s before I even get to the kids. You know it’s true, you can feel it. The signs are everywhere you look. Parents and the child-free alike are dropping like flies. It has felt like the end of days. Some are calling it the twindemic . I argue that term is too light. Germs are running rampant, partying all night, rocking out at the premiere of 2022: The Winter The Cold Came Back. Now I can see the email was a portent. It arrived in July. On top of the ‘rona, my two-year-old’s daycare advised of the circulation of a tummy bug, conjunctivitis, and hand foot and mouth disease. ‘We hunted down the removal man who stole our family fortune’
Emily Gasztowtt was at home, in Switzerland, when a message flashed up on her phone from her brother, Charlie, in Oxfordshire. It was 7.30pm on a Tuesday night, in December 2019, and Charlie was at his desk, checking the last of the day’s emails, when a banner, from an auction site, appeared at the bottom of his screen. He regularly bought from fine art auctioneers but this painting, a fruit bowl in blue acrylic, looked familiar. ‘I clicked through and there it was,’ he recalls. ‘A picture I’d often admired in Emily’s home.’ He messaged her: ‘Are you selling your Roy Freer?’ ‘Nope,’ she replied. What happened next unravelled an audacious art heist leading back to one thief: a removals man, Martin Bateman, who had packed up Emily’s home three months earlier. In doing so, she became the last in a long list of victims to find their most treasured artworks and priceless family heirlooms looted and consigned to auction to line the pockets of a criminal they’d unknowingly let into … [Read more...] about ‘We hunted down the removal man who stole our family fortune’
