A WOMAN has opened up about her struggles to get her life back on track following years of abuse at the hands of her father. Author Jennie Ensor revealed her traumatic childhood is the inspiration behind her novel, The Girl In His Eyes, due to be released later this month. Jennie, 58, says she has few memories of her early years, but recalls how afraid she was of her father, who she describes as unstable. She was a happy and outgoing child, but that all changed when the abuse began. Jennie told The Mirror: “There was sexual behaviour from him since I was about 12. “He’d touch me intimately and talk to me in an adult way, leaving pornographic images hidden in my bed for me to see, or make me watch sexual things with him.” Her schoolwork was impacted and she acted out to get attention, but knew if she got suspended she would be sent home to where her dad was waiting. The abuse carried on until she was 15, and Jennie never told anyone at the time. Woman endures jellyfish swarms becoming 1st to swim Outer Hebrides to mainland
Battling through giant shoals of jellyfish, Colleen Blair has become the first woman to swim from the Outer Hebrides to the Scottish mainland. The 40-year-old has revealed how she was stung hundreds of times doing the treacherous 27-mile route known as the North Minch wearing just a bathing suit, hat and goggles. The swimmer got caught in tidal waters, suffered sea temperatures as low as 9C and endured agonising stings of the Lion’s Mane jellyfish. Colleen, from Aberfeldy, Perthshire, reached the Rua Reidh Lighthouse at the entrance to Loch Ewe, Wester Ross, after 18 hours and 46 minutes of non-stop swimming. She said: “It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life but I am glad it’s done. Even though I knew it would be a long and cold swim, it turned out to be an even bigger challenge. “It was my longest swim ever, without tide assistance. Lifeguards raced to the rescue of a woman who set out to explore a popular dive wreck off the coast of Plymouth. The swimmer and her kayaker pal ventured into waters at Whitsand Bay in the hope of checking out the HMS Scylla wreckage. The Exocet Leander class frigate was deliberately sunk as an artificial reef in March 2004 and proves to be a big draw for diving enthusiasts. The RNLI watched on as the woman swam behind - spotting early on there were problems as they got separated. It followed warnings before the duo got into the sea on Friday that paddling out too far would come with risks. Concerned for the swimmer's safety, lifeguard officials headed out to see if she needed help and bringing back to shore. Dramatic video footage captures the moment the woman was hauled on-board a lifeboat and brought back after complaining she felt tired and was struggling to feel her legs. The kayaker was considered safe and carried on out to see Scylla. Now lifeguard crews have warned others about … [Read more...] about Dramatic video captures moment woman is rescued from shipwreck
