The Latest on the final day of the NATO summit in Madrid: NATO leaders of are arriving to a conference center in Madrid for the third and final day of their annual summit. The 30-member alliance is due to wrap up its talks with a working session on security concerns for its southern flank, namely in unstable areas of North Africa and the Middle East. On Wednesday, NATO nations pledged their continued support for Ukraine in its efforts to resist Russia’s invasion. It also issued an updated Strategic Concept, the document which lays out its top security concerns for the coming decade, where it named Russia as its top threat and added China for the first time. NATO has also announced that it will boost its rapid response forces for Eastern Europe, increasing them from 40,000 to 300,000 troops ready to react to any attack by Russia against NATO territory. Summer holidays under threat from airline strikes across Europe
Holidays across Europe could be thrown into chaos this summer due to mass strikes and staff shortages across the continent. British holidaymakers have faced a nightmare in recent weeks due to delays, cancellations and luggage going missing at the UK’s busiest airports. More problems are expected after British Airways workers at Heathrow voted to strike in a dispute over pay. Around 700 workers will walk out between July and September after the airline failed to restore a 10% pay cut imposed during the pandemic. However, it’s not just the UK facing these problems. Workers in France, Spain, Italy, Germany and Scandinavia have voted to or are discussing strike action over pay and conditions. Staff shortages have also caused delays and baggage problems in other popular destinations like Bucharest and Portugal. Thousands of British passengers are set to be caught up in the disruption, which affects major airlines like easyJet and Ryanair. Putin propagandists have rounded in on Boris Johnson after he mocked the Russian leader’s topless photos and ‘toxic masculinity’. In one particularly savage takedown, a Kremlin journalist branded the prime minister ‘chubby’, made a dig about partygate and claimed he was ‘jealous of Putin’s good shape’. The war of words kicked off earlier this week when the PM made a joke at his Russian counterpart’s expense , telling a G7 summit: ‘Shall we take our clothes off?
