After news of Dancing On Ice being cut short broke out, the hit ITV series was instantly branded "cursed" and "disastrous" by some viewers. However stars who are competing on the hit skating show this year hit back at the claims - despite the countless obstacles bosses were forced to face this year. Woolly mammoths were ‘wiped out by humans AND climate change’ – and would otherwise still be here today
PREHISTORIC humans may have been responsible for the extinction of the Woolly Mammoth after all, according to research. Simulations suggest that a combination of hunting by hungry humans and dramatic climate change killed off the mighty beasts 4,000 years ago. Previously, scientists have suggested that extreme weather or genetic disease may have driven the demise of the species. According to new research from experts in Australia, mammoths would not have died out when they did if it were not for humans. "In the absence of humans, we would expect woolly mammoths would have persisted for an extra 4,000 years in some areas," Dr Damien Fordham at the University of Adelaide in South Australia told New Scientist . The models also suggested that mammoths survived longer in several locations across Eurasia than was previously believed. "People should be sending out expeditions to find fossil material," Dr Fordham said. The Woolly Mammoth – the last surviving mammoths … [Read more...] about Woolly mammoths were ‘wiped out by humans AND climate change’ – and would otherwise still be here today
Coronavirus: AstraZeneca admits huge vaccine shortfall for EU
Pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca will deliver to the EU less than half the amount of COVID-19 vaccine doses that it pledged for the first quarter of 2021, company boss Pascal Soriot admitted to European lawmakers on Thursday. The drugmaker has long said it will not be able to fulfill its target, but the confirmation remains a blow to the EU's vaccine rollout. The bloc has fallen far behind the United States, Britain and Israel in vaccinating its public, blaming supply chain issues. About 8% of the adult population of the EU have been vaccinated, according to European Commission Chief Ursula von der Leyen. AstraZeneca will now try and deliver 40 million doses of its COVID-19 vaccine by the end of March, down from an initial 90 million. The pledge is in line with previous statements from the company. On Wednesday, AstraZeneca said it would only be able to deliver half the COVID-19 vaccines it was contracted to supply the EU in the second quarter of 2021.
