The 3rd minute tribute planned for former Swansea City player Kevin Austin
Swansea City fans are planning a special tribute to former defender Kevin Austin, who has tragically died from pancreatic cancer aged just 45. The Swans head back to the Liberty Stadium on Wednesday night to take on West Bromwich Albion at 7.45pm. It gives the club and fans an opportunity to pay tribute to Austin, who Swans fans far and wide have mourned this weekend as news of his death on November 23 became public. Austin wore the number three shirt during his time at the club between 2004 and 2008, and on the third minute of the game, Swansea City Football Club has confirmed an image of the much-loved former player will be put on the big screens to let fans show their appreciation. And many fans have already confirmed their plans to chant his famous 'Austin Is Our Hero' chant at the same time. Western Mail letters: Monday, July 2, 2018
Scaremongering belies some facts Many Remainers have recently written into your letters column with doom and gloom and obviously saying that our leaving will be an absolute disaster. They are firm supporters of Michael Barnier and Donald Tusk. Both of these EU negotiators are currently pressurising our negotiators to speed things up. They must be very worried indeed, worried that they will be the losers in our exit from the EU. When we voted to leave the EU there was much negativity from a number of businesses, saying that there would be a minus with growth and exports. Well, since our referendum, the ONS has declared that growth has doubled, our exports have increased by 7.3%, with increased trade with countries outside the EU. Apparently exports to Canada, India, Hong Kong, Japan and China have risen by a minimum of 12% to 31.8%. Exports to the EU are only 10%. Both BMW and Airbus are scaremongering Britain away from a “no deal” with the EU. I personally never voted for … [Read more...] about Western Mail letters: Monday, July 2, 2018
Britain’s 18 best waterfalls for wild swimming
There's no denying that it's hot in the UK right now. If you live in a city, it's likely that it's all getting a bit too much. So throw your swimming costume in a bag, run away to the country and cool off in one of Britain's great wild swimming spots. Cornwall 1. St Nectan’s Kieve, Tintagel Swimming there: At the head of a wild glen a tall, slender waterfall falls into a high basin, flows through a circular hole and drops into a plunge pool (the kieve). This is a holy place with prayer flags, a shrine room above and lots of steps. There is a small tea room in the hermitage. An entrance fee applies. Getting there: Locate the track with a postbox, opposite a telephone box, on the B3263 in Trethevey, two miles east of Tintagel. Bear right and follow it for one mile, past St Piran’s Well, down into the woods, and up along a pretty stream, finally climbing the steps up to the shrine entrance (20 minutes, 50.6644, -4.7168). Wales 2. Watkins path waterfalls … [Read more...] about Britain’s 18 best waterfalls for wild swimming
