More than 11,000 children and young people accessed community mental health services in Sussex this year. Mental health support can be needed at any age. ‘Kara’ was 13 when she was referred to a counselling service at her school.Her parents had split up earlier in the year and her behaviour had become disruptive, sometimes aggressive towards other students and staff.Talking to a YMCA dialogue counsellor, Kara was able to express how she had witnessed domestic violence between her parents. To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the foundation of Walberton CC, the MCC, the most famous cricket club in the world, have agreed to visit on Sunday, June 30, to play the village club in a special match. Play commences at 11.30am and to ensure this is a major community event, admission is free. It is being sponsored by The Mellor Practice, a firm of independent financial advisers who have offices at Arundel and Worthing. Sims Williams, the local estate agents, have designed a special shirt for all the Walberton players and The Hilton Avisford Park Hotel have sponsored a commemorative match handbook featuring the history of the club in addition to a flyer which will be delivered to most residences in the village. Sussex Cricket held its annual disability inclusion day – called DIScoverABILITY Day. This year, the flagship community event celebrated its 10th anniversary with over 500 people from thirty different organisations including schools, colleges, day centres and community organisationsenjoying a fun-filled day at The 1st Central County Ground.The diverse range of activities were put together and run by an enthusiastic team of twelve Sussex Cricket coaches, eight county Disability Squad players and 50 business and community volunteers.The majority of the volunteers came from a variety of Sussex businesses including First Central, Focus Group, Mishon Mackay, Galloways, IEP Financial, Oliver & Graimes, Irwin Mitchell and Yes Promo Products. The amazing moment a schoolgirl met Meghan Markle has been captured in a hilarious photo. Maddison Ormond-Donnelly met Meghan during her visit to Birkenhead earlier this year. Maddison was lucky enough to meet the Duchess of Sussex during the Royal visit and spoke to both her and Prince Harry about her dreams for the future. 10-year-old Madison was at Birkenhead with her mum Amy, who is a mental health nurse. Meghan pulled her out of the crowd and put her arm round her, with Maddison stunned by the Duchess' attention. During her chat with Prince Harry and Meghan, Maddison told them she wanted to follow in her mum's footsteps and also become a mental health nurse. Maddison's mum Amy took her to work with her last week so she could meet some of those who work in the profession and learn how rewarding a career in healthcare can be. On Wednesday 8th May, the Foundation hosted a Premier League Primary Stars (PLPS) tournament on the People’s Pension Stadium pitch. We invited Southwater Junior Academy, Milton Mount Primary School, Holy Trinity C of E Primary School, Cuckfield, The Oaks Primary, Manor Field Primary School, Southway Junior School & Langley Green Primary School to bring a mixed & girls team to compete in the tournament. Kick off was at 9:30 am, and across the morning the teams played each other once in a league format leading to the semi-finals.Every team played well despite the heavy rainfall throughout the tournament, and each player worked hard to uphold the Premier League values, which we teach throughout our PLPS lessons.After the finals and the third-place play off, we had a small award ceremony for the first, second & third placed teams.
