Midwifery students are being taught how to help men give birth in a textbook that experts have warned is rife with anatomical fiction. Edinburgh Napier University told training midwives that they may be caring for a “birthing person” who has male genitalia and a prostate gland, in a bid to support transgender people . A module guide on how to provide safe care in childbirth told students: “It is important to note that while most times the birthing person will have female genitalia, you may be caring for a pregnant or birthing person who is transitioning from male to female and may still have external male genitalia. “You need to be familiar with the catheterisation procedure for both female and male anatomy. For this reason, where appropriate, this book refers to the birthing person.” The guide, obtained by The Telegraph, explained the “male anatomy catheterisation” procedure during birth, commonly used during caesarean section to drain excess fluids, along with diagrams on … [Read more...] about Midwifery students being taught how to help men give birth

Vladimir Putin’s plot to dismantle the West has backfired spectacularly
Since retiring from the Russian army in 2000, Colonel Mikhail Khodarenok has been an éminence grise of military affairs, regularly popping up on state television to give his analysis. He has been at it too long to be too afraid of the Kremlin. In February, he ridiculed as “fantasy” the idea that Ukraine could be easily conquered. On a primetime Rossiya-1 TV show earlier this week, he went further . “We are now in total geopolitical isolation,” he said. “We don’t want to admit it. But practically, the whole world is against us.” The host, Olga Skabeyeva, confronted him immediately. What about India and China, she asked: aren’t they worthy allies? “I’m looking at the bigger picture,” he replied. So is Joe Biden . This morning, he lands in Seoul as part of a five-day trip to salute the Asian flank of the new anti-Putin alliance. His visit makes a point that has not been lost on Colonel Khodarenok: this war is not (as Moscow TV so often says) Russia vs Nato, or Russia vs “the … [Read more...] about Vladimir Putin’s plot to dismantle the West has backfired spectacularly
Facebook blocks posts calling for Indian prime minister Modi to resign
Facebook has been found censoring posts calling for the resignation of embattled Indian prime minister Narendra Modi. The social media firm briefly blocked users in multiple countries from searching for content with the hashtag #ResignModi, claiming that "some content in those posts" broke its rules. A spokesman said on Wednesday that the block had been reversed and that the company was investigating why it had happened. But the move sparked anger and confusion from Indians, who have suffered a spike in coronavirus cases and deaths and allegations of a government cover-up over the real statistics. The crisis has loosened Mr Modi's traditional grip on the Indian media even as his government uses new laws to force Facebook and Twitter to block specific posts that criticised his response to the pandemic. Boris Johnson opens door to increased immigration from India in exchange for trade deal
Boris Johnson on Wednesday opened the door to increased immigration from India to the UK in exchange for a trade deal, as he prepared to meet Narendra Modi , the country's prime minister. Speaking from his plane, the Prime Minister said he hoped to strike a trade deal "by the end of the year" and that he had "always been in favour of having people come to this country". He suggested more relaxed rules for Indian immigrants could be offered by the Government in exchange for a speedy deal that allows the two countries to trade without tariffs. "We have a massive shortage in the UK, not least in experts in IT and programmers," Mr Johnson said. "We're short to the tune of hundreds of thousands in our economy. "We need to have a professional approach but it has to be controlled." His comments come after ministers announced they would loosen visa restrictions for Indian students earlier this year. Easier immigration is a key demand of Mr Modi in trade negotiations, and could … [Read more...] about Boris Johnson opens door to increased immigration from India in exchange for trade deal
Will Qatar invest in the Trump-tied conservative news outlet Newsmax after falling out with Jared Kushner?

Huntington Beach COVID “curfew breakers” rally to protest stay-at-home orders
A large crowd of people gathered in Huntington Beach to protest California's statewide curfew after it went into effect on Saturday night. The latest restrictions to combat a surge in coronavirus cases require the vast majority of Californians to stay at home from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. unless they are going out for essential work, responding to an emergency, shopping for groceries, picking up takeout or walking their dog. The curfew applies to 41 of California's 58 counties which remain in the purple tier—the most restrictive of the four tiers that permit various stages of economic reopening. Orange County, where Huntington Beach is located, is in the purple tier. But a crowd of people broke the curfew immediately after it was enacted to join a rally protesting the limited stay-at-home order. The "curfew breakers" protest was being planned to start at 10.01 p.m. at the Huntington Beach Pier on Saturday, according to a flier posted on Twitter by FoxLA reporter Bill Melugin. "If … [Read more...] about Huntington Beach COVID “curfew breakers” rally to protest stay-at-home orders
‘So creative!’: $6 DIY wedding centerpieces stun internet
A DIY hack about how to make sophisticated floral centerpieces to top tables at weddings for just $6 has gone viral, leaving the internet stunned. In a video shared on TikTok earlier in May, Kaiandnika shows how to build up tall centerpieces using just some cheap glass candle holders, a kind of super glue that is specific for gluing glass together, and some plastic bowls to hold the flowers on the top. The footage shows Kaiandnika gluing all the parts together and once they have dried up, they're ready to paint. In further comments, she explained that a crafty friend helped her paint her centerpieces with gold spray paint, and once ready she added real flowers and leaves on top for a nice touch. In the comments, she also explained that while $6 was roughly the price she had paid in 2021 for each finished centerpiece, now with rising costs the price would be slightly higher. She also said she may have actually paid less than $6 each, as she bought five of the six items for … [Read more...] about ‘So creative!’: $6 DIY wedding centerpieces stun internet
