Date created : 21/04/2019 - 17:56 With the Brexit deadline delayed until autumn, Britain will still be an EU member when elections for the EU Parliament begin May 23 and thus obligated to elect its own MEPs. It is a confusing state of affairs that puts Europe in an “absurd” position. Just a few weeks ago, the prospect of the UK taking part in the upcoming European elections seemed impossible. But that was before British Prime Minister Theresa May negotiated an additional six-month Brexit extension to give her a chance to get her divorce deal through the UK parliament – leaving the UK a full EU member when polls open next month and thus required to put forward parliamentary candidates.“There’s still a slight chance that the British parliament votes on a Brexit deal before May 22 [the eve of the elections], which means they won’t have to hold EU elections. But that’s no longer likely,” Thierry Chopin, a professor in political science at … [Read more...] about EU parliamentary elections and the Brexit headache

TOP Gear series 26 is coming to an end tonight (March 19), featuring classic moments from Matt LeBlanc, Rory Reid and Chris Harris. But, where is the Top Gear track, and what are the filming locations for the new series? We have the lowdown... The Top Gear test track is located on a former Royal Canadian Air Force at Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey, United Kingdom, and was designed by Lotus Cars as a testing facility, with many of its Formula One cars tested there. Top Gear mainly uses the track for Power Laps and the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car segment. According to the BBC, the track "is designed to test cars to their very limits. It includes a range of corners, from the slow technically challenging Hammerhead to the fast and terrifying Follow-Through, to expose any weakness in a car's chassis." Devon, United Kingdom - Brigadier Stephen Goodall has always fought on the winning side -and hopes he will be doing so again in what he admits will be his last battle: Brexit. Sitting upright in his armchair at his home in Devon, England, the 96-year-old British Army veteran recalls the ultimate sacrifice made by comrades to end warfare in Europe. "My own experience of the Second World War has convinced me that we must defend the peaceful and democratic Europe that so many of my generation died for," he says. "I am an old man and the outcome won't affect me - but it will affect my family and many people that I know for years to come." Goodall is an icon in the campaign for a second referendum on the UK's relationship with the European Union after a first vote in 2016 started the clock ticking towards withdrawal on March 29. He made headlines by volunteering to lead the first march for a "People's Vote", calling for a plebiscite - just as he had volunteered to fight fascism in 1942. He … [Read more...] about UK veteran, 96: Defend the peaceful Europe my generation died for
