Retired colonel speaks out on Russian TV

May 17, 2022 by www.bbc.co.uk

By Steve Rosenberg Published 1 hour ago Share close Share page Copy link About sharing Related Topics Russia-Ukraine war Russia's mainstream media outlets offer a view of the Ukraine war that is unlike anything seen from outside of the country. For a start, they don't even call it a war. But our Russia editor reflects on a rare exchange broadcast on state TV. It was an extraordinary piece of television. The programme was 60 Minutes, the flagship twice-daily talk show on Russian state TV: studio discussion that promotes the Kremlin line on absolutely everything, including on President Putin's so-called "special military operation" in Ukraine. The Kremlin still maintains that the Russian offensive is going according to plan. But on Monday night, studio guest Mikhail Khodarenok, a military analyst and retired colonel, painted a very different picture. He warned that … [Read more...] about Retired colonel speaks out on Russian TV

Royal Family news- Prince Harry & Meghan ‘still pushing for royal life’ despite not wanting the ‘association’ with them

May 17, 2022 by www.thesun.co.uk

MEGHAN Markle and Prince Harry are “still pushing for royal life” despite not wanting to be "associated" with them, a royal expert has claimed. PR expert Lina Citreon discussed the Sussexes ’ lifestyle choices with Christina Garibaldi on the latest episode of Royally Us. Speaking on Royally Us, host Christina Garibaldi said: “They [ Harry and Meghan] are one of the most recognisable couples in the world but they also wanted to straddle that royal life. “You know, when they were told they couldn’t, they’re still using their HRH titles and things, so it seems like they’re still pushing the royal life but don’t really want to be associated with it either”. PR expert Lida said: “One of the things we’ve learnt is you sometimes don’t get to have it both ways. “When you think about royal life and pageantry of the institution, there’s lots of rules that come with that and there’s protocols and there’s rewards. “But celebrity also has rules and protocols and rewards, it … [Read more...] about Royal Family news- Prince Harry & Meghan ‘still pushing for royal life’ despite not wanting the ‘association’ with them

Climate change fuels surge in wildfires sparking concern of ‘devastating consequences’ if left unchecked

May 9, 2022 by www.independent.co.uk

The number of wildfires recorded in England and Wales so far this year has already surpassed the 2021 total, fuelling concern for what the future might hold if the climate crisis is left unchecked. There were 243 wildfires from January to April, compared to 237 for the whole of last year, according to figures logged on the National Fire Chiefs Council National Resilience reporting tool, shared exclusively with The Independent . Firefighters and wildfire experts warn the intensity and frequency of larger wild blazes have increased in recent years, likely due to a dangerous mix of climate change, a lack of land management, arson attacks and accidental fires. “I am very fearful that a member of the public or a firefighter is going to get seriously hurt,” said Craig Hope, a wildfire tactical adviser at South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, who said more prevention work is needed, along with better training for firefighters who tackle the blazes before the problem got … [Read more...] about Climate change fuels surge in wildfires sparking concern of ‘devastating consequences’ if left unchecked

Europa League final: The fall and rise of Rangers

May 17, 2022 by news.sky.com

Any club that survives for 150 years knows the highs and the lows. At Ibrox, the highs have seen dizzying spells of domination, the lows have been as bleak as they get. It is though the last decade in which Rangers have added a chapter that might be called "the fall and rise" but that would not quite capture the magnitude of the turmoil Rangers found themselves in back in 2012. The hordes of buoyant Rangers fans landing in Seville ahead of the Europa League final were in a very different place 10 years ago - there were tears outside the gates of Ibrox as the news was confirmed that this famous old club was to be liquidated. The finances were a mess - creative accounting built on quicksand had seen the club borrow more than it could afford. For the fans, the slow car crash that played out at Ibrox was painful to watch. As you might expect, their rivals delighted in the club's spectacular collapse. Advertisement Administration led to liquidation. The … [Read more...] about Europa League final: The fall and rise of Rangers
