Work to transform Coventry into one of the world’s most digitally connected cities has begun. CityFibre has started work on its national Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) project in Coventry. The initiative aims to bring full fibre and therefore superfast broadband, to up to one million UK premises by 2021 in partnership with Vodafone. The rollout will benefit both residential addresses and business premises. The first area in Coventry where the installation is taking place is Longford . It is set to be followed by Upper Stoke , Foleshill and Holbrooks . The project saw the recent appointment of Leigh Hunt as city development manager for CityFibre in Coventry. Housebuilders will be forced to commit to installing superfast broadband on new developments in Chorley before they will be granted planning permission. And the move could even bring high-speed internet access to existing households in parts of the borough which are currently cut off from the fastest connections. A progress report on the £428 million Digital Scotland Supefast Broadband rollout project is short on facts when it come to the Borders. The report highlights the number of premises now connected to the new network - 900,000 across Scotland - and in regions where the figures are good, percentages are given. For the Borders we are told that “more premises can now upgrade to faster broadband”.A clue to what “more premises” amounts to is given by Robert Thorburn, fibre partnership director for Openreach in Scotland.
