Nate Davis USA TODAY Published 7:29 AM EDT Jul 22, 2019 Take it from me, few things are more fun (if thankless) than the prediction business. So, with training camp doors swinging open, it's time to reveal my now-annual NFL record projections. The methodology? Using the latest pre-camp info, I predict all 256 regular-season games on the 2019 schedule, letting the chips fall where they may. From there, I add bonus prognostications for all 11 postseason contests. The results? Well, I've correctly forecast a Super Bowl eight months ahead of schedule (Seahawks over Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII) ... and also had some spectacular misses, including way-off-base outlooks for Seattle and Indianapolis just a year ago (both teams reached the postseason, of course, avoiding last-place finishes I envisioned). But 2018 produced extra fun when Seahawks LBs Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright kindly (and correctly) dismissed my predictive powers. Wagner even followed up to rib me after … [Read more...] about 2019 NFL record predictions: Will Patriots return to Super Bowl?
Former New England Patriots linebacker Tedy Bruschi, who won the Super Bowl three times before turning television analyst, is "recovering well" after suffering a second stroke, his family announced Friday on social media. Bruschi suffered his first in 2005 while still playing for NFL team the Patriots. "Yesterday afternoon, Tedy had a stroke," the statement said, "He recognized his warning signs immediately: arm weakness, face drooping and speech difficulties. "Tedy is recovering well, and would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff at Sturdy Memorial Hospital (in Massachusetts) for all they have done. Tedy and his family thank you for ongoing encouragement, and kindly ask for privacy at this time." Bruschi was found to have a heart defect that required him to undergo a surgical procedure to repair a hole, forcing him to sit out the start of the 2005 campaign. He returned to play nine games and was named the 2005 NFL Comeback Player of the Year. Bruschi, 46, retired in 2008 and … [Read more...] about Three-time Super Bowl champion Bruschi suffers second stroke

Lila Bromberg USA TODAY Published 12:48 PM EDT Jun 7, 2019 The New England Patriots revealed their Super Bowl LIII Championship ring Thursday -- and it's definitely a statement piece. It is the largest Super Bowl ring in history, according to Jostens, which crafted the 10-carat gold piece for the team's sixth championship. It features on average 422 diamonds and 20 blue sapphires for a total 9.85-carat hunk of jewelry. Players, coaches, staff and team executives saw the rings and tried them on for the first time at a private ceremony at Kraft’s house. The ring has 39 diamonds around the Patriots logo, representing the franchise’s 37th playoff victory and becoming the second team in league history to reach a sixth championship.
