British Airways passengers can now buy a discounted Covid-19 test kit to take abroad, which they can use ahead of their return to the UK. Under the current UK travel rules, anyone arriving in the UK will need to show proof of a negative Covid test taken within 72 hours of departure - which leaves travellers having to find somewhere abroad to get a test. However, British Airways is offering discounted antigen kits from Qured for £33, which passengers can buy before they travel. Passengers can order the kits to their UK address, which are designed to be portable so passengers can take them abroad. They can then schedule a video call with one of Qured's professional health advisors for when it's time to administer the test, so that they can be guided through the process and check that it's done correctly. Pakistan: Senate election deals a blow to Imran Khan
Pakistani Premier Imran Khan will seek a vote of confidence in the National Assembly (lower house of parliament) following a major setback in the upper house elections on Wednesday. The move is aimed at restoring confidence in Khan's leadership after his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party failed to win a majority in the 100-member Senate, despite having a numerical advantage in the lower house. Members of the National Assembly in the capital Islamabad and four provincial assemblies vote for the Senate members. Upper house lawmakers are elected for six years, however, all of them are not elected at the same time. On Wednesday, elections were held for 37 Senate seats. After the vote, opposition parties – mainly former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League (N) and former president Asif Ali Zardari's Pakistan People's Party (PPP) – now enjoy the support of 53 members, and the ruling alliance of 47 members. Ruling parties generally secure a majority in the Senate. … [Read more...] about Pakistan: Senate election deals a blow to Imran Khan
Dozens of mammals including horses, dolphins and goats could catch Covid-19, study reveals
Dozens of mammals including horses, dolphins and goats could be infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19, a new study reveals. Chinese researchers analysed animal cells in the lab to determine which had the ACE2 receptors that facilitate an infection. ACE2 receptors have a shape that matches the outside of the coronavirus , effectively providing it with a doorway into the bloodstream. The team's results reveal 44 mammal species other than humans – including pets, livestock and animals found in zoos and aquariums – had the ACE2 receptor. Among them were gorillas, sperm whales, rhinos, horses, cats, goats, hamsters, cattle, giant pandas and leopards – all of which may be able to become infected with coronavirus, the experts say.
