The Dronfield 10k and Fun Run takes place this Sunday - and people are being warned about a number of road closures on the day. The annual race, organised by 7th Dronfield Scout Group, starts at 10am.Road closures will be in place from 6am to 12.30pm during the two-lap course around Dronfield Woodhouse.There will be parking restrictions in place in advance of the race on Pentland Road, Leabrook Road, Gosforth Drive, Gosforth Lane, Stubley Lane. No parking will be allowed on roads subject to closure as this will prevent traffic flow around the one way system. The police will be in attendance to enforce no parking restrictions. Residents are hoping for a quieter life in future, after the completion of a major traffic calming scheme.The issue of traffic speeding through East Farleigh had long worried villagers; it was one of the prime points they wanted to address when the parish council prepared a Parish Plan back in 2009.The trouble was that even though traffic surveys indicted that half of all drivers were exceeding the 30 limit which runs past the crossroads of Lower Road with Vicarage Lane and Station Hill, and although a quarter of drivers were doing more than 40mph, there had not been a history of serious accidents sufficient to persuade KCC Highways to take action.So the parish has decided to go it alone. The ever-popular Stafford Half Marathon returns to the county town this weekend with a new route and a new start line. The 2019 edition of the 13.1-mile race will begin in Earl Street, at the junction with Broad Street, at 10am on Sunday. Last year’s event – eventually won by Karl Darcy, pictured – was postponed due to snowy conditions, but the outlook for the weekend suggests that while it might be cold, wet and windy, the race should go ahead. Runners from Bristol will be looking forward to taking on the 'Bath Half' Marathon tomorrow. (March 17, 2019) The event is one of the longest established and most popular city centre road events in the UK. Now in its 38th year, it is also the largest charity fundraising event in the South West region, raising over £2.25 million for charity in 2017 alone. The course itself is fast and flat making it suitable for all abilities – for beginners whose key objective is to complete the course, to more regular long-distance event runners, looking to beat their personal best time.
