A SHOPPER plunged from an upper floor and landed on another customer at a shopping centre in East London this afternoon. Emergency crews rushed to the packed Westfield complex in Stratford after reports of a man falling "from a height". He landed on a woman on the ground floor in front of horrified shoppers. Both have been rushed to hospital where their condition is not yet known. A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Police were called at approximately 16:00hrs on Wednesday, 17 October to reports of a man fallen from a height and a woman injured at Westfield Shopping Centre, Stratford. "Officers and the London Ambulance Service are in attendance. "We await an update on both the man and woman’s condition." More to follow... A welcome new day dawns at Stratford East as recently arrived artistic director Nadia Fall launches her first season at the helm. A juicy programme has been announced for the coming months, starting with April de Angelis ’s fresh adaptation of Fuenteovejuna, Lope de Vega’s Spanish Golden Age classic about a collective stand against tyranny, presented now with an entirely BAME cast. This play was a landmark 1955 hit for Stratford East icon Joan Littlewood, and Fall, who also directs, has put her faith in its rallying cry for solidarity. It’s a clever idea to transpose the dramatic action to contemporary India, where freethinking village girl Jyoti (Anya Chalotra) galvanises her fellows against the reign of terror of corrupt police chief Gangwar (Art Malik), who casually rapes and discards the local women.
