Inside Line: Clinical Saracens show their class – but what about the rest of the Premiership?
Back in 2020, after Saracens’ 25-17 victory over Leinster in the Champions Cup quarter-final , scrum-half Richard Wigglesworth suggested that their quality would survive the salary-cap scandal. “We are not looking for any sympathy,” he said. “But perhaps it will prove that what we built is true and special.” Wigglesworth has moved on these days. He is a player-coach at Leicester Tigers and took on Leinster in another quarter-final on Saturday . On another tough weekend for Premiership clubs in European competition, his words from two years ago felt pertinent. Since he uttered them, Saracens have bounced back from the Championship into the top flight. Over recent weeks, they have looked ominously potent as opportunities for silverware approach. They and Wasps are the only English sides that remain in the Challenge Cup, with the exits of Sale Sharks and Tigers making it two consecutive seasons without Premiership representation in the last four of the Champions Cup. Gabin Villiere stars as Toulon masterclass sees off Saracens to book Challenge Cup final spot
Toulon 25-16 Saracens A blockbuster performance from Gabin Villière sent Toulon past Saracens to continue this heady season of French success by setting up a Challenge Cup final against Lyon. The 26-year-old, a star of Les Bleus’ Grand Slam, is a remarkably resourceful player – a hugely effective hybrid capable of influencing in numerous facets. Indeed, to label him by his position, wing, would be restrictive. He scored two of Toulon’s three tries, thanks to his slippery pace, and caused havoc at the breakdown with tenacious and intelligent scavenging. On a crackling, somewhat nostalgic, evening at the Stade Mayol, the last Premiership side left in Europe was beaten. Despite falling behind early on, Saracens had carved out a 13-6 advantage thanks to an opportunistic finish from Ben Earl after Owen Farrell’s penalty had kissed the post. But they were also bettered by the imposing physicality of Toulon, with Springboks totem Eben Etzebeth to the fore, and some canny kicking from … [Read more...] about Gabin Villiere stars as Toulon masterclass sees off Saracens to book Challenge Cup final spot

Urgent warning issued to Woolworths shoppers that the price of food is about to rise even more: This is why
Woolworths has warned fruit and veg prices are likely to soar as poor growing conditions are set to strangle supply of grocery essentials - with the worst yet to come. In an email sent to shoppers on Thursday, the supermarket giant said heavy rain and low sunlight has impacted the supply and price of lettuce and berries. May is Mental Health Awareness Month: COVID may have normalized mental health struggles
May is Mental Health Awareness Month and, according to the World Health Organization, the prevalence of anxiety and depression globally increased by a massive 25% in the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic alone. Social isolation was cited as one of the reasons for the increased stress felt by so many during the pandemic. Add in constraints on people’s ability to work or to seek support from loved ones, engage in their communities, loneliness, fear, grief, financial worries and exhaustion from those who work in health care and the perfect storm of a mental health crisis is created. Mental health care providers in Louisiana say they have felt the crisis up close and personal. “The pandemic has challenged the resiliency of people who would previously have had no empathy for anxiety and depression," said Roy Petitfils, LPC, whose counseling practice is based in Lafayette with Pax Renewal Center. Petitfils said the pandemic forced many to deal with realities that were once … [Read more...] about May is Mental Health Awareness Month: COVID may have normalized mental health struggles

UK will get drenched as thunderstorms set to hit this afternoon
Britain is set to be lashed by thunderstorms today as the Met Office issues a yellow weather warning for treacherous conditions and travel disruption. Deluges are expected across Wales, the Midlands, northern England and Northern Ireland from 1pm this afternoon. The washout is set to bring hail, lightning and heavy rain moving northwards – sparking fears of flooding. And the miserable weather is also set to cause chaos on the roads and trigger public transport delays. Some people could also be affected by short-term power cuts, the Met Office said on its website, with damage to buildings caused by lightning strikes also possible. ‘Scattered thunderstorms will develop on Monday afternoon bringing some disruption to travel in places,’ the weather forecaster said. ‘There is a good chance driving conditions will be affected by spray, standing water and or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus. ‘Delays to train services are possible. Some short term … [Read more...] about UK will get drenched as thunderstorms set to hit this afternoon
Italy stopped attacks by Russian hackers during Eurovision
Italian police foiled plans by Russian hacker groups attempting to attack the semi-finals and final of the Eurovision Song Contest. During voting and the performances in Turin, the country’s police cybersecurity department blocked several cyber attacks by the Killnet group and its affiliate called Legion, police confirmed yesterday. The police also gathered information from the pro-Russian group’s Telegram channels to prevent other critical events, and identified the geographic location of the attacks. Killnet claimed an attack on the websites of several Italian institutions last Wednesday, including the Senate, Italy’s upper house of parliament, and the National Health Institute. The pro-Vladimir Putin cyber group hinted on Friday it would disable the online voting system through a DDoS attack — which involves a website being inundated with traffic from multiple computers leading it to crash. ‘You can’t vote online,’ it wrote on Telegram, alongside a Eurovision … [Read more...] about Italy stopped attacks by Russian hackers during Eurovision
