A Stoke City transfer target is a nominee for 2018/19 Championship Player of the Year. Birmingham City striker Che Adams, linked with Stoke in the summer and again before the January transfer window opened, is in the running for the award with Sheffield United’s Billy Sharp and Norwich City’s Teemu Pukki. All three are vying to be the top-scorer in the division this season. Derby County’s Harry Wilson, another player linked with Stoke in the summer, and Norwich’s Max Aarons are both on the shortlist for Young Player of the Season, an award which covers all three divisions in the Football League and also includes Luton Town’s James Justin from League One. Seven honours will be up for grabs during the EFL awards dinner at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on Sunday, April 7. Derby’s Max Bird is the EFL Apprentice of the Year, while Aston Villa’s John McGinn and Sheffield Wednesday’s Adam Reach are both on the five-man shortlist for the … [Read more...] about Stoke City transfer target up for 2018/19 Championship Player of the Year award

Burnley want £9m for striker Sam Vokes and Stoke City are not keen to do business at that price, The Sentinel can reveal. Boss Nathan Jones has highlighted the Welsh international as a priority target to add some beef to his forward line. And Burnley are willing to do business - particularly if they can sign a striker themselves having being linked to Birmingham's Che Adams. But their asking price of £9m is considered high by Stoke for a player who turns 30 next October. They will hope to knock down Burnley's valuation and may even threaten to walk away from the deal to strengthen their bargaining position. Vokes, who measures in at six foot, two inches, is the kind of old fashioned target man the new Stoke boss wants at the bet 365 to provide a physical presence to a somewhat sheepish forward line. At the weekend, Jones stated: "We know that we need a real focal point up front so we have been active in certain things. “It would be wrong to say names because we have too … [Read more...] about Stoke City transfer latest: Burnley pricing striker out of move?
Stoke City boss Nathan Jones is hoping to land his first signing for the club after tabling a bid for Wolves defender Danny Batth. The offer, thought to be around the £3.5m mark, will shake up the heart of Stoke's defence where Jones has shuffled between skipper Ryan Shawcross, Ashley Williams and Bruno Martins Indi during his first four games in charge. The 28 year-old centre half has started eight league games while on loan at Middlesbrough in the first half of the season - including the 0-0 draw at Stoke on November 3. Baath began his career at Colchester before quickly earning a move to Wolves in the summer of 2010. He has played more than 200 senior games for the Molinuex men, but also had four loan spells away from the club at Sheffield United, Sheffield Wednesday (twice) and now Middlesbrough under Tony Pulis. Batth would be very much a Nathan Jones signing after he drew a red ring round his name when discussing with the club's hierarchy where he wanted to strengthen in the … [Read more...] about Stoke City transfer news: Nathan Jones poised for first signing
Stoke City transfer target Che Adams is the subject of an £8m bid from a Premier League club, according to media reports. Southampton are said to be one of at least 12 top-flight clubs keeping track of the 22-year-old, who is Birmingham City’s 14-goal top scorer. The Mirror claims Birmingham have rejected the offer but are “braced for a fresh attempt from Southampton for their exciting prized asset, as well as further bids from other suitors”. Reports before Christmas suggested Adams was wanted at Stoke by his old boss, Gary Rowett. There was also speculation he was a tentative Rowett target in the summer too, but the sacking of the man who signed him for Birmingham in the summer of 2016 also apparently ended Stoke interest in the player. That’s because new boss Nathan Jones appears to be looking for an altogether different type of striker than the quick and mobile Adams , with Southampton’s Charlie Austin and Burnley’s Sam Vokes … [Read more...] about Stoke City transfer gossip: Premier League club in £8m bid for Potters target
Stoke City are ready to move for young Portsmouth defender Matt Clarke before the transfer window closes next week, according to reports. The website Football Insider claims the 22-year-old is Nathan Jones’ top target as he seeks to reinforce his backline. In an “exclusive” report, Pete O’Rourke writes: “Clarke has played an instrumental role in Portsmouth’s success this season, helping them to the top of League One. “He has an ever-present in the Pompey defence this season and has established himself as one of the best young defenders in the Football League. “Portsmouth will be keen to keep hold of Clarke as they look to win promotion to the Championship, but Stoke are ready to test their resolve to hang onto the defender.” Stoke boss Jones is a keen exponent of the “diamond” midfield formation, but needs speedy and mobile central defenders for it to work at its best. He switched formation to field three … [Read more...] about Stoke City transfer gossip: Potters poised to swoop for League One defender
