Gary Rowett has held frank talks with Saido Berahino and spelled out what he wants from the misfit striker from the first day of pre-season training on June 27. He urged Berahino to get things off his chest to gain an insight into his various troubles at Stoke which culminated in him being fined for reporting late for training and a match towards the end of last season. But the new Stoke boss has stopped short, for the moment, of saying Berahino has a long-term future at a club where he has yet to score a senior goal since joining for £12m 16 months ago. “It’s not something I ordered, he wanted to see me,” Rowett revealed. “He came in during his free time and I’ve had a good conversation with him. “He’s given me some of his frustrations and I’ve outlined where I see things. “I think sometimes in that scenario it’s not just the manager you’ve got to try to impress, but also the rest of the group, that’s the … [Read more...] about Stoke City set to give Saido Berahino one last chance?

Derby County fans would love a crack at Stoke City in their first game of the season. Normally they might go for a clash against near neighbours Nottingham Forest, but not this summer. Not since Gary Rowett upped sticks and left Pride Park for the bet365 and motored west along the A50. Our friends at the Derby Telegraph asked fans on their Facebook page who they wanted first up when the Championship season kicks off on the weekend of August 4. And the overwhelming response was Stoke City for what would be a first league meeting between the two clubs since February 2007. And here's a sample of the replies they got... Mark Hatton: Stoke City away and beat them 4-0 . Mark Brannan: Stoke away. It’s round the corner from me, I work next to the ground and we beat them so I can gloat at them all season. Richard Wolfe: Deffo Stoke! Ash Dcfc Winson: Stoke to beat Rowett. Tim Whybrow: Leeds home please and Stoke mid April at home and we go up.. like to see Rowett’s face. So will they … [Read more...] about Stoke City wanted by Derby County fans for opening fixture
Gary Rowett is now the odds on favourite to take over at Stoke City… and many Derby County fans believe it would be a good move for their manager. Priced at evens to become the new Potters boss overnight, the 44-year-old is now a prohibitive 1/3 on to replace Paul Lambert , who left Stoke on Friday. David Moyes , still the main choice for a majority of Stoke fans, remains second favourite but his odds have lengthened to 5/1 with Championship sponsors Sky Bet. Rowett is understood to have been one of Stoke’s preferred candidates to replace Mark Hughes when he was sacked in January, but the former Birmingham City and Burton boss opted to sign a new contract with Derby instead. However, faced with the prospect of losing some of the players that helped him take the Rams to the Championship play-offs, Rowett could now be more receptive to Stoke’s overtures, and it seems he could go with the blessing of Derby fans. A poll in the Derby Telegraph narrowly accepted that … [Read more...] about Gary Rowett now red hot favourite to become Stoke City boss
Stoke City are ready to listen to offers for Max Choupo-Moting as the huge task of re-building for the Championship swings into action. The 29 year-old Cameroon international endured an unconvincing first season at Stoke after signing a three-year contract when leaving German outfit Schalke. He intermittently impressed - scoring a double against Manchester United early on - before his first season in the Potteries petered out into a non event. His very last touch for the club could be the goal he scored against Everton on March 17 before immediately pulling up lame with a groin injury. He failed to make it back into the first-team squad and his prolonged absence inevitably aroused questions about his commitment during the club’s battle against relegation. Choupo-Moting, together with loan signing Jese Rodriguez, was seen as a viable plugging of the gap left by Marko Arnautovic’s £25m departure to West Ham last summer. But he struggled for consistency during his 26 … [Read more...] about Stoke City happy to offload Max Choupo-Moting
Stoke City FC signed Gudjohnsen from Monaco on the last day of the summer transfer window, however, he did not take part in pre-season training with Monaco over the summer. In addition, Gudjohnsen did not play regularly whilst on loan at Tottenham last term, so despite making five substitute appearances for Stoke this season, he has struggled to reach peak condition. Consequently, the 32-year-old former Barcelona and Chelsea player was put on a fitness programme by Pulis to get him up to the pace of the Premier League. However, Pulis has revealed that the striker is still carrying excess weight. Pulis explained, “His weight is still a bit up on what it needs to be. The pace of the Premier League now dictates you have to be 100 per cent. Hopefully sometime in December we should have him up and running.” Despite all of this, Pulis explained that he does not regret signing Gudjohnsen and is excited about the prospect of him fully-fit and playing to his very best. Pulis added, … [Read more...] about Stoke City FC striker Eidur Gudjohnsen still not fit enough
