The speech from the Duke of Sussex marks another public appearance for the newly rebranded Sussex family, with a crucial period for Harry and Meghan Markle on the horizon. Speaking to Daily Star, expert Schiffer said of the speech: "It was strange and awkward and misplaced. It was one of those choices that I think he should have passed on because it seemed unconscious. Trump lawyer who was at Mar-a-Lago for FBI search describes the scene
Lindsey Halligan, a Florida-based attorney for former President Donald Trump, was at Mar-a-Lago and spoke with CBS News about the FBI search. Here's her description of what transpired: Halligan received a call at around 10 a.m. Monday that FBI agents were at Trump's Palm Beach home, Mar-a-Lago, and they had a search warrant. She was the second Trump attorney to arrive on scene, at about 11 a.m, after the search had begun. Christina Bobb, who used to be a TV host on the far right OAN Network, was already there. Over the next eight hours, Halligan said 30-40 FBI personnel conducted the search. There were a handful dressed in suits, but most wore t-shirts, cargo pants, masks and gloves. Halligan estimates 10-15 FBI vehicles went in and out of the property, including a Ryder truck. She didn't witness boxes or documents being loaded onto the truck, though she did not dispute FBI investigators took material from Mar-a-Lago — Halligan just didn't see it. Sources told CBS … [Read more...] about Trump lawyer who was at Mar-a-Lago for FBI search describes the scene
Cecil Rhodes listed plaque set to be ‘reinterpreted’ by Oxford college
Cecil Rhodes will be reinterpreted, an Oxford college has said, after a plaque in his honour was given protected status by Nadine Dorries . The plaque on the ground of Oriel College had been earmarked for removal amid outcry over Cecil Rhodes’ imperialism , but the plans were scrapped and the commemoration was this week given Grade II listed status as part of a policy to “retain and explain” contentious monuments. Oriel will nevertheless “press ahead” with plans to reinterpret and contextualise the 120-year-old plaque, it is understood, despite government intervention to protect what it termed the memorial’s “historic interest”. The college will seek to install more permanent contextualising information near the plaque, although the new listed status will make this process complicated; as all buildings nearby are listed there may be no surface to attach an additional information panel. College looks to be ‘creative’ But it is understood the college will be “creative” and … [Read more...] about Cecil Rhodes listed plaque set to be ‘reinterpreted’ by Oxford college
China ends military drills around Taiwan, vows regular patrols
The Chinese military announced an end to a week of intensive military drills around Taiwan on Wednesday but signaled its intention to continue regular patrols in the sensitive waters between the two countries. Chinese forces "successfully completed various tasks" during the naval and air force training missions around Taiwan, said Col. Shi Yi, a spokesperson for the People's Liberation Army 's Eastern Theater Command. The exercises originally scheduled from August 4 to 7 were extended twice, and Taiwan's armed forces continued to detect large military maneuvers on August 10. "Theater troops will pay close attention to changes in the situation in the Taiwan Strait, continue to train and prepare, organize regular combat readiness patrols in the Taiwan Strait and resolutely safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity," Shi said. Beijing's war games, the largest show of force in the region since the mid-1990s, began shortly after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi … [Read more...] about China ends military drills around Taiwan, vows regular patrols
“Jewish people should respect me,” says alt-right leader Richard Spencer on Israeli TV
Speaking in an interview on Israeli television, white nationalist Richard Spencer Wednesday said Jews were "overrepresented" when challenged on antisemitism, adding Jews and Israelis should respect him despite his supremacist views. Spencer, who has previously courted Israeli media, despite engaging in Holocaust denial and refusing to condemn Hitler, made the remarks while speaking to Israeli state broadcaster Channel 2. Read More: Why Israel Is Spending $800 Million on a Hidden New Wall The alt-right figurehead was initially questioned on the weekend's deadly clashes between white supremacist protesters and anti-fascist demonstrators in Charlottesville , Virginia. Spencer refrained from discussing James Alex Fields Jr., the white nationalist who stands accused of deliberately plowing his car into the group of counter protesters and killing 32-year-old Heather Heyer. After being booted off GoDaddy, neo-Nazi website Daily Stormer won’t find a home at Google
UPDATED | Just hours after being given notice that it was to be removed by web-hosting site GoDaddy, neo-Nazi website the Daily Stormer transferred its domain name to Google—which promptly canceled its registration. Early Monday, GoDaddy said in a tweet it was giving the notorious white supremacist site 24 hours to find another domain for breaking its terms of use. The site had earlier published an article viciously attacking Heather Heyer, the anti-racism activist killed in an alleged car attack at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. Later Monday, renowned hacktivist the Jester tweeted that the site had attempted to change its domain registrar services to Google. Online records show that the site updated its domain information on Monday. The Domain Name Wire reported that Google domain name registration is automated, meaning that Google would have been unaware of the site being transferred to its domain name register. Can Trump’s political and commercial brands ever recover from his Charlottesville comments?
President Donald Trump's brand is one of his most—if not the most—precious possessions. He puts his name on everything: Trump steaks, Trump golf, Trump hotels, Trump condos, Trump ties and the failed Trump University. Some of these products have been complete flops. But he's recovered from each one, galvanizing his image with The Apprentice reality show. It's difficult, however, to continue trading on a brand if it's been irreparably tainted. The fallout from Trump's comments this week equating the white supremacists and neo-Nazis who marched in Charlottesville, Virginia, with those who opposed them marks a turning point for the president's commercial and political brands, which have become intertwined, branding experts say. It remains to be seen, they say, whether Trump can recover. Still, he did, after all, box his way out of bankruptcy. "I think it's going to frame him historically as aligned with these fringe groups that are not consistent with the character of … [Read more...] about Can Trump’s political and commercial brands ever recover from his Charlottesville comments?
Even President Trump’s Arizona rally has been caught up in efforts to shut down hard-right events
A series of hard-right rallies planned for the coming weeks are under threat of being shut down after a violent white nationalist event in Charlottesville, Virginia, last weekend left one counterprotester dead. In San Francisco, the U.S. National Park Service said it is deciding whether to pull the permit of a group called Patriot Prayer , which has organized a "Freedom Rally" in the city's Crissy Park below Golden Gate Bridge on August 26. The federal agency, which is responsible for the park, said in a statement Wednesday that it will make its decision within the next seven days based on a "thorough public safety review." The agency said it is receiving a "large volume" of comments from the public about the event, but these must be weighed against "our obligation to uphold one of our nation's most cherished constitutional rights, the First Amendment right to freedom of speech." Democrats, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and California Senator Dianne Feinstein, … [Read more...] about Even President Trump’s Arizona rally has been caught up in efforts to shut down hard-right events

Metropolitan Police Department officers detained 43-year-old Bryan Moles on two counts of carrying a pistol without a license and one of possessing unregistered ammunition, according to The Washington Post . No shots were fired at any time, but police spokesman Dustin Sternbeck told the Post that his department got a tip about Moles having "made threatening remarks" from another police force.
