All 40 seats on Surrey Heath Borough Council will be up for election on Thursday (May 2). Surrey Heath is divided into 14 wards with the Conservatives currently holding 36 of the 40 seats up for election. The number of seats up for election, and the number of votes you have, will depend on where you live. Some wards, like Bagshot and Frimley Green, elect three candidates, while others elect only two, so make sure you check how many boxes you need to tick when you get to the polling station. From the city’s most famous suffragette to the extraordinary women of Winckley Square, spring is set to be buzzing with historic walks. The Friends of Winckley Square has announced new dates for an array of its popular tours. During the Edith Rigby Guided Walk visitors can find out about the Preston suffragette, see where she lived and learn about the causes she committed her life to. The two-hour walks take place on Wednesday, April 24 and Wednesday, May 22. Both start at 10am. The tour about the Extraordinary Women of Winckley Square does what it says on the tin. The change ensures that there is more daylight in the evenings and less in the mornings. Alnwick Castle has revealed what's in store when it reopens for the 2019 season. The castle closes for the winter, but is due to open its doors again on Friday, March 29. More than 100 new staff have been trained, including costumes guides, and are ready to welcome visitors. Since it featured as a location for the Harry Potter movies, Alnwick Castle has put on a host of magical events to cater for wizarding fans. In 2019, Wizarding Weeks and Weekends return, with lookalike characters on hand to meet fans and conjour up fun. Alnwick Castle promises real, live enchanted creatures, and a make-your-own magic wand workshop.
