Putin stages drills with Yars nuclear missiles capable of reaching UK
Vladimir Putin has staged drills with his road-launched Yars nuclear missiles in a forest in western Siberia. Their 7,500-mile range means they are capable of striking the UK or anywhere in Europe. The tests come amid high tension with the West over the war in Ukraine , and against the backdrop of near-daily threats by Putin’s propagandists to deploy atomic weapons. In a statement, the Russian defence ministry said: ‘Over 100 pieces of hardware are taking part in the exercise. ‘Launch vehicles of the Yars road-mobile missile systems of the Russian Strategic Missile Forces’ Novosibirsk Missile Formation have trained redeployment during a scheduled drill. ‘While performing their manoeuvres, missile units and detachments dispersed in a forest to increase concealment.’ They trained in killing mock saboteurs, reconnoitring the launch area, and in passing through ‘contaminated’ areas, said the defence ministry. Putin seen tightly gripping a table again during meeting with grain boss
Vladimir Putin had to hold onto a table for support during a meeting with a top official. The warmonger, who has long been dogged by rumours of ill-health, held a firm grip as he listened to Russia’s top grain boss in Moscow. It appeared to be a carbon copy of a meeting Putin had at the same table last month. Footage showed the 69-year-old gripping the table so hard his veins started to bulge. These are just the latest in a long line of appearances coming under the spotlight amid reports of secret surgeries and body doubles. A clip from a recent awards ceremony showed Putin’s legs shaking as he swayed back and forth with his arms straight by his side. It is also widely believed he is taking steroids or receiving cancer treatment, which has left him looking puffy-faced. Professor Erik Bucy, a body language expert from Texas Tech University, told The Sun : ‘This is not a portrait of a healthy Putin but one appearing increasingly feeble and barely able to … [Read more...] about Putin seen tightly gripping a table again during meeting with grain boss
Auberon Waugh
Auberon Waugh's death at the age of 61 is more sad than surprising. His immediate heredity wasn't promising - his father died at 62, his mother at 57 - and he suffered from ill-health all his life, partly resulting from severe wounds sustained during National Service at the age of 18. That may, in part, have accounted for the acidic personality which made him the most verbally brutal journalist of his age. Everyone who met him remarked on the contrast between his ferocity in print and his personal geniality, but this was hard to explain to those who didn't know him, especially if they had been on the rough end of his pen. Apart from health, his background shaped his career in one other respect. He spent much of his life trying to escape from the shadow of his father, the greatest English novelist of his age. This provided an obvious weapon for Auberon's enemies. Philip Larkin joked about "my projected series, Talentless Sons of Famous Fathers - Waugh, Amis, Fuller...", and for … [Read more...] about Auberon Waugh
All the Tories brutally turning against Boris Johnson’s leadership as MPs ‘read last rites’
Shameless Boris Johnson has told friends he will "smash on" despite a string of resignations. The Prime Minister is said to have declared "I'm not going anywhere” despite Rishi Sunak , Sajid Javid and his Solicitor General all resigning last night. But MPs have other ideas - with a string of Tories from across the spectrum reading him the “last rites”. While the Cabinet are now mostly firm, the PM is being rocked by a string of junior resignations from government. Between 6pm on Tuesday and 2pm on Wednesday 21 MPs resigned from the government - nine ministers, nine parliamentary private secretaries, two trade envoys and one Tory vice chair. Back bench MPs across the spectrum, from moderate ex-ministers Chris Skidmore and Nick Gibb to culture war Red Wallers Jonathan Gullis, Tom Hunt and Lee Anderson, have charged over the top. For so many MPs, the revelation the PM knew about claims against MP Chris Pincher, then promoted him repeatedly, then “forgot” he’d been told, is … [Read more...] about All the Tories brutally turning against Boris Johnson’s leadership as MPs ‘read last rites’

Boris Johnson leadership LIVE: Cabinet members queue up to tell PM he must quit
A delegation of Cabinet ministers are set to meet Boris Johnson at No10 as he heads out of a car crash Liaison Committee meeting this evening to tell him to go. 'Men in grey suits' Welsh Secretary Simon Hart, grim-faced Transport Secretary Grant Shapps and Northern Ireland Secretary Brandon Lewis are set to tell the Prime Minister he had lost the confidence of his party. The revelation the PM knew about claims against “grope” accused MP Chris Pincher, then promoted him, then “forgot” he’d been told, was the last straw for many MPs. Chancellor Rishi Sunak and health secretary Sajid Javid led the way yesterday for a wave of Tory resignations . The doomed PM has seen dozens of his own MPs quit in 24 hours, including ministers, parliamentary private secretaries and trade envoys. Meanwhile, Tories have discussed changing the rules of no confidence votes - to force the PM out as soon as next week if he opts to squat in No10. In a day of feverish drama at Westminster the … [Read more...] about Boris Johnson leadership LIVE: Cabinet members queue up to tell PM he must quit
Rishi Sunak and Sajid Javid RESIGN in Cabinet coup to topple Boris Johnson
Sajid Javid and Rishi Sunak have both resigned from Government in an extraordinary blow to Boris Johnson 's premiership. The Health Secretary made the bombshell move as Tory anger mounted over the Prime Minister's handling of the Chris Pincher saga. Minutes later, Chancellor Rishi Sunak also announced he was also quitting . A source claimed the top Tories did not co-ordinate their resignations - despite the appearance of an organised coup to oust Mr Johnson. Their departures could be a fatal blow to the scandal-hit Prime Minister, who is fighting for his political life once again after months of sleaze and scandal. Mr Johnson was forced into a crisis reshuffle, which led to him appointing his Chief of Staff Steve Barclay as Health Secretary. Only 10 days ago Mr Johnson boasted he was “thinking actively” about a third term in office - that would keep him in No10 until the “mid-2030s”. But tonight his authority was rocked by a wave of departures, as several … [Read more...] about Rishi Sunak and Sajid Javid RESIGN in Cabinet coup to topple Boris Johnson
