Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson looked in good health - and showed he has lost none of his sense of humour - when he watched Salford City beat Wrexham on New Year's Day. The 77-year-old former Reds manager happily posed for a picture with Calum Ollerhead, 11, joking that he needed a heated gel pack to keep warm as temperatures plumetted. The Scot has recovered well since emergency surgery in May following a brain haemorrhage. A day after Sir Alex returned to United's training ground for the first time since the health scare, he was at Salford City's Moor Lane ground as they beat Wrexham 2-0. The club is co-owned by the players Sir Alex turned into stars, Gary and Phil Neville, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs. He was seated beside fellow United legend Denis Law in the executive seats. At half time, Calum asked Sir Alex if he would pose for a picture and he obliged, joking that he should charge for such services. Calum, a Moorside High pupil from Swinton, was over the … [Read more...] about Sir Alex Ferguson seen cracking jokes at Salford City game on New Year’s Day

Jose Mourinho says being forced to start Marouane Fellaini broke his game plan against Manchester City. The Belgium midfielder was named in the Manchester United starting XI at the Etihad on Sunday after Paul Pogba was ruled out through injury. Fellaini has only just returned from injury himself. The 20-year-old came off the bench against Juventus midweek to help inspire United's superb comeback win. But he couldn't prevent City from strutting their stuff as Pep Guardiola's men coasted to a 3-1 victory. David Silva opened the scoring after just 12 minutes before Sergio Aguero doubled the hosts' lead shortly after half-time. United were given a lifeline when Anthony Martial scored from the spot but Ilkay Gundogan sealed all three points for City in the 86th minute, rounding off a mesmerising 44-pass move. At full-time, Mourinho confessed Pogba was a big miss and Fellaini starting affected his game plan. "Of course, we missed him [Pogba]," said the Portuguese. "One of the things … [Read more...] about Mourinho names Man Utd star who broke Man City game plan
Fans eager to be part of what is sure to be an emotional day at the King Power Stadium this afternoon afternoon are being targeted by fraudsters, it is claimed. Leicester City will be honouring their dearly departed former chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha as the team take on Burnley in the Premier League. The game is a sell-out and will be the first home fixture back at the King Power Stadium since the helicopter crash that claimed Khun Vichai's life, along with those of four others, on October 27, after City's game against West Ham Utd. The game is also the Foxes Remembrance Day fixture when the club pays its respect to the fallen and raises money for the Poppy Appeal on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War. But it seems some people are trying to take advantage of the Blue Army's understandable sentiments towards their late owner and desire to be part of the occasion. Some are even been reported as posing as season ticket holders and offering up … [Read more...] about Reports that ticket fraudsters targeted fans ahead of City game

With nine trophies to his name, Kompany has played under four managers and seen plenty of players come and go. He joined City shortly before Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan's takeover that transformed the fortunes of the club, and has been a crucial part of the journey to becoming three-time Premier League champions. Nowadays, Kompany calls some of the world's best players his team-mates and is coached by Pep Guardiola - arguably the best manager in world football. On the day he made his debut, August 24, 2008, however, the starting eleven was very different in quality and shows just how far City have come. Playing in central midfield, Kompany helped his new side to a comfortable 3-0 home win over ten man West Ham. A young Daniel Sturridge opened the scoring in the 65th minute, before a quick double from Brazilian Elano sealed the win.
