Dentist’s urgent warning to Brits thinking of going overseas for cheap ‘Turkey teeth’

July 4, 2022 by www.mirror.co.uk

A dentist has issued a stark warning to Brits thinking of going overseas for cheap 'Turkey teeth'. The latest cosmetic dental trend of travelling abroad to get cheaper treatment is becoming increasingly popular as in the UK alone - 63% of those considering treatments are aged between 18-34, Liverpool Echo reports. However, experts say people committing to a lifetime of unnecessary, expensive and painful treatments could be at risk as many don’t even know what work they’ve had done when going for veneers, which is a wafer-thin covering for the front of the tooth. And coming away with a far more invasive outcome like crowns, where the surgeon will file down the existing teeth and add a fake tooth cap, or crown, could see patients walk away with 'Turkey teeth'. Dentists are warning Brits not to end up with 'Turkey Teeth' ( Image: Getty Images/Stock Image) While it may be cheaper in the short-term to travel abroad for the treatment, it could end up costing … [Read more...] about Dentist’s urgent warning to Brits thinking of going overseas for cheap ‘Turkey teeth’

Phillip Rhodes returns to Aotearoa for star role in Wellington Opera’s La Traviata

July 4, 2022 by www.stuff.co.nz

Phillip Rhodes (Ngāti Awa, Ngāti Kahungunu) is a husband and father of two. He grew up in Hawke’s Bay and was fostered by Henare and Pam O'Keefe. He left Aotearoa to study singing in Cardiff, after winning the Lexus Song Quest in 2007. With support from Dame Kiri Te Kanawa’s foundation, he managed to establish himself as a professional singer in Europe with regular appearances in the UK's leading opera companies, including Opera North, Scottish Opera, Welsh National, English National and the Royal Opera House. He’s now come back home for Wellington Opera’s La Traviata, which shows from July 9-16 at the St James Theatre. What is the show you’re involved with? I will be singing the role of Giorgio Germont. Giorgio is a man of his time, a father who loves his son, and dotes on his (betrothed) daughter. He is a father who, like many, is willing to walk into hell in order to save his children. But in order to rescue his daughter's marriage he demands the termination of his son's … [Read more...] about Phillip Rhodes returns to Aotearoa for star role in Wellington Opera’s La Traviata

Lawyer’s murder hints at secrets of Australia mafia

March 24, 2016 by www.bbc.co.uk

Published 24 March 2016 Share close Share page Copy link About sharing The killing of criminal lawyer Joseph "Pino" Acquaro in Melbourne sheds light on the hidden machinations of the 'Ndrangheta, says Australian crime writer Adam Shand. Liborio Benvenuto, who died in 1988, was the last of the old-time Australian godfathers. He understood his power but also its limits. His protege Joseph "Pino" Acquaro, who was murdered in a Melbourne street last week, was not so wise. Benvenuto became the leader of The Honoured Society, a Melbourne-based Calabrian mafia group, after a bloody internal battle in the early 1960s dubbed the Market Wars. He presided over a quarter century of relative peace until he died of natural causes in 1988. It was Benvenuto who encouraged Acquaro, the son of a prominent accountant in the Calabrian community, to become a lawyer. Violence was bad for business, so a … [Read more...] about Lawyer’s murder hints at secrets of Australia mafia
