Stabbed on death

Thousands of bowel cancer deaths could be avoided if NHS made simple change

July 5, 2022 by www.thesun.co.uk

THOUSANDS of lives could be saved from cancer with yearly gut checks, says Cancer Research UK. Posting bowel cancer screening kits to NHS patients every year instead of every two years could boost early diagnosis. The charity is urging people to get checked after Sun writer Dame Deborah James pleaded with Brits to “check your poo” before she died of the disease last week. A study by the University of Sheffield suggested 13.6 per cent more people would send samples if kits were sent every year. This could save the lives of at least 11,000 people already over 50 who are expected to die of the disease, it found. Michelle Mitchell, CEO of Cancer Research UK, said: “Screening is an effective way of catching cancer early and saving lives but not everyone engages. Man who stabbed nine-year-old boy 15 times given hospital order

July 5, 2022 by metro.co.uk

A man who stabbed a nine-year-old boy in the face and hands has been given an indefinite hospital order. The young boy was walking home with his older brother in Peterborough on May 8 last year when Faisal Khan, 26, began following him. Khan overtook the pair before turning back and wielding a knife, grabbing the child and stabbing him about 15 times. The shocking attack continued until neighbours rushed out of their houses to help save him. Khan then fled from the scene and discarded a bloodied knife on a nearby driveway. He was arrested by police but they deemed him not fit to be interviewed. The boy survived but was left with life-changing injuries and permanent scarring. On Friday, Khan was sent to hospital for indefinite treatment instead of prison after he previously admitted attempted murder. He will only be released when he is deemed not to pose any risk to the public. DC Rob Giffen said: ‘I can only imagine the feeling of sheer terror these two boys … [Read more...] about Man who stabbed nine-year-old boy 15 times given hospital order

Federal judge whose son was killed in ambush: “My son’s death cannot be in vain”

September 11, 2021 by www.cbsnews.com

[This story originally aired on February 20.] In July 2020, Daniel Anderl, the son of federal Judge Esther Salas and attorney Mark Anderl, was shot dead by a gunman at the front door of the family's New Jersey home. Daniel Anderl, 20, took a bullet to his chest trying to protect his parents. By the time Judge Salas came to the door, the killer was gone. Her husband, Mark, was wounded. "I have direct evidence that he died heroically, that he had a holy death," says David Oakley, Daniel Anderl's godfather and a family friend. The stranger who came to Judge Salas' door had been holding a package, posing as a deliveryman.  Just eight days earlier, a chillingly similar incident took place in California. When attorney Marc Angelucci came to his door to sign for a package, he was also shot dead. "He was just a down-to-earth, at the center of his soul a good-hearted person," Marc's friend,  Cassie Jaye, tells CBS News correspondent Tracy Smith. "[Sighs] I was trying to make … [Read more...] about Federal judge whose son was killed in ambush: “My son’s death cannot be in vain”
