Spider-Man has been cut off from the Avengers and the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe at large by that most dangerous of supervillains: unsuccessful corporate negotiations. Talks between Sony (who own the film rights to the character) and Disney (who own Marvel) collapsed over a potential new deal that would have seen the latter company have an equal amount of the box office haul. The news has prompted a #savespiderman campaign as fans believe it is a bad idea for the popular character to leave the MCU and go back to Sony, whose last solo attempt was the much maligned Amazing Spider-Man 2. The Claim According to The Guardian that's pretty much it for Tom Holland's Spider-Man in the MCU. He's done, finito, gone. Sony have said they are "disappointed" that Disney asked for a bigger share of the profits from future films and that Marvel president Kevin Feige won't be playing a production role in Spider-Man's next showings on the big screen. Sony didn’t take a liking to the proposal, and while negotiations continued, neither of them would budge, ultimately resulting in Spider-Man being yanked from any future Marvel movies. This is particularly worrying since the recent … [Read more...] about Spider-Man – what does the Sony/Disney split mean?
