Jeremy Corbyn should back the idea of a "Norway model" for Britain after it leaves the European Union, former South Shields MP David Miliband has said. A fashion student from South Tyneside is in the running for a prestigious industry award after wowing judges with her collection. Lois Sleightholme has been shortlisted for the YKK Accessories Award after creating a series of quirky designs featuring berets, backpacks and a shopping trolley.The 23-year-old from Westoe, South Shields, will find out if she has won when she attends Graduate Fashion Week - which is taking place at the Truman Brewery in Hanbury Street, London tomorrow.During the event, the Northumbria University student will have her work sent down the catwalk where it will be placed under the spotlight by industry experts, fashion brands and well-known designers. A teenager who was threatened at knifepoint while walking with his girlfriend has bravely spoken out in an attempt to bring the thug to justice. The 17-year-old - who does not want to be named - was walking along Waverdale Way, South Shields, on the night of Bank Holiday Monday at the time of the shocking incident. Together with his girlfriend and their pet dog, the young couple were approached at about 10.40pm by a man who appeared to be “intoxicated”. Describing the events that followed, the teenager said: “He came right up to my face and said give us some baccy. “He was so close, his nose was practically touching mine. I gave him some and that’s when he pulled the knife out.” The knife has been described as having a 15cm-long jagged blade and a black handle, and was pointed by the man at the teenagers. Jackie, who grew up in Hebburn but now lives in West Sussex, got in touch after starting to “put together some photos and newspaper clippings about him for my two brothers”.“While searching for information and photos or indeed anything related to my dad, I discovered that he played football for South Shields, probably early ’50s.“I’m unsure about dates, though I have found some information from The British Newspaper Archive online about him playing for Murton CW up to October 1950.“I’m hoping readers have any photos or team lists or anything really. Hebburn Town have made a huge statement of intent with the signing of FOUR players on two-year contracts – including three ex-South Shields stars.
