Don’t be surprised if house prices drop 20pc
The housing market continues to astonish. A recent survey of surveyors showed sales volumes and price balances strengthening. Over the last year, average house prices have risen by 12pc. This follows nine years of increasing prices. Can the market continue to be this strong or is there trouble ahead? One key metric that is flashing red is the ratio of average house prices to average earnings (HPE). It currently stands at 7.7, having recently surpassed the previous peak of 7.5, registered in 2007, just before the global financial crash. This crisis was followed by a fall in average house prices of 18pc. The long-term average value for the HPE, going back to 1970, is 5.1. As is usually the case at the peak of the market, valuations currently look particularly stretched in London and the South East . Although the HPE ratio is a useful guide to the underlying valuation of the housing market, it has proved pretty useless as a short-term forecasting tool. This is partly because … [Read more...] about Don’t be surprised if house prices drop 20pc
I’m a property expert – is NOW the time to buy as house prices and mortgage rates go up?
BUYING a property is a big commitment and timing could be everything. As house prices reach record highs and mortgage rates increase, is now the time to buy your first home? Samantha Bickford, mortgage specialist at Clarity Wealth Management, says there's never a perfect time to buy a house - but if you're trying to get on the ladder, you might not want to wait. According to the Office for National Statistics, house prices soared a whopping 10.9% over the past year to an average of £277,000. As a result, some buyers are scrambling to secure a home before prices go up any further. Add to the mix the fact that interest rates are rising, and buying now means you will still be able to lock in a cheap mortgage deal . Bickford said: "While interest rates are starting to creep up, and have been slowly for some time now, they are still historically very low." House of Lords move to Burnley would be fantastic, locals say
By Hannah Makepeace & Samantha Jagger Published 25 minutes ago Share close Share page Copy link About sharing The possibility of the House of Lords moving to Burnley while the Palace of Westminster is refurbished has been welcomed by many in the town. The government has said peers cannot move to a building near Parliament while work is carried out and should move away from London instead . Burnley was one of the places suggested by Levelling Up Secretary Michael Gove. Residents in the town said it would be "absolutely fantastic", though one said it might end up being "a big let down". Peers had wanted to use the Queen Elizabeth II Centre in Westminster, but Mr Gove said he "cannot endorse" a plan for peers to "decamp to a temporary home a mere 200 yards from the Palace of Westminster". The secretary of state told the Lord Speaker Lord McFall it was "clear" to him that … [Read more...] about House of Lords move to Burnley would be fantastic, locals say
Crucial gas supplies turned away from UK ports
Critical shipments of natural gas are being turned away from British ports because National Grid fears it will be overwhelmed by supplies intended to tackle the European energy crisis. The Grid has cut the amount of liquid natural gas it is accepting at Milford Haven terminals in Wales over fears that it is running out of storage for millions of tonnes of fossil fuel meant to replace Russian deliveries across the Continent. It dramatically reduced the amount of capacity offered at the port in June at an auction held last Wednesday. Energy companies expect further reductions at the country’s three LNG terminals in the coming months, even as oil and gas-rich countries offer to ramp up supplies. Iran is considering gas exports to Europe, an oil minister said on Sunday. The Grid's limits on imports have sparked a backlash from global energy companies including ExxonMobil, RWE and Petronas, which have warned that it risks making the cost-of-living crisis worse by driving up energy … [Read more...] about Crucial gas supplies turned away from UK ports
$87.8 Million Listed Bel-Air Mansion Sells Way Below Asking Price At Auction | The Daily Wire
A mansion in Los Angeles’ Bel-Air neighborhood was put up for auction, but it ended up going for much less than was initially expected. “Nobody told me this thing’s going to go below, below this level,” the seller, Dr. Alex Khadavi, a dermatologist from Tehran who became a developer, said, per CNBC . Last year, he filed for Chapter 11 level bankruptcy protection two weeks after listing the home, per the outlet. Khadavi said he would only go for as low as $50 million, but the house was auctioned off for much less than that — at a bid of less than $45.8 million. It was put up for auction this week at $87.8 million. “Horrible, Horrible, Horrible!” Khadavi told CNBC about the situation. The house has seven bedrooms and eleven bathrooms, with two garages and an individual guest house with two bedrooms. In an interview with the outlet last summer, Khadavi said , “Seven is a number and theme that has affected me in every important aspect of my life,” adding, … [Read more...] about $87.8 Million Listed Bel-Air Mansion Sells Way Below Asking Price At Auction | The Daily Wire
Cheapest school uniform deals as Sainsbury’s slashes prices by 20% and shoppers are already stocking up for September
KEEPING the kids looking sharp isn't cheap, but Sainsbury's has slashed the price of school uniforms by 20% for a limited time only. The discounts will be welcome relief for families struggling to fork out for essentials - but the deal ends soon. Last year, new laws ruled that schools must make uniforms affordable for parents from August 2022. Some schools still insist parents buy branded items, when a standard kit would be cheaper. One school in Kent expected parents to cough up £80 for uniforms but was slammed by parents for being "tone deaf". The Department for Education said parents can save £50 by buying uniform from a generic store, as opposed to a specialist shop. read more on shopping DIAMOND GEEZER Aldi's Kevin the Carrot is BACK with new merch for the Queen's Jubilee LABEL CHECK The yellow sticker bargains that could actually cost you MORE And with stores such as Sainsbury's cutting prices … [Read more...] about Cheapest school uniform deals as Sainsbury’s slashes prices by 20% and shoppers are already stocking up for September
