Windfall tax ‘damaging’ for net zero plans and energy security, businesses say
The windfall tax announced by the chancellor will be "damaging" for the UK's net zero plans and energy security, the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) has said. Rain Newton-Smith, CBI chief economist, said the tax "sends the wrong signal to the whole sector at the wrong time", pointing to a "backdrop of rising business taxation". Chancellor Rishi Sunak said oil and gas firms will pay a 25% levy on profits , which will be phased out when energy prices return to normal - but companies will get 90% in tax relief for any profits they invest. The funding will be used to help families with soaring energy bills. I’m a Target Superfan – I’ve worked out the exact time of the day it’s best to shop in-store and it has 3 huge benefits
A TARGET superfan has revealed the exact time it's best to shop in-store and the three huge benefits that come along with it. QuerySprout founder Marques Thomas opened up on his consumer help website about a major tip on how to find discount deals and have the most pleasant experience at the popular busy retail chain. The Target superfan suggests the ideal time to shop at the big-box department store chain is between the early hours of 8am and 10 am from Monday to Friday. Shopping during that two-hour time frame allows Target-goers to avoid crowds, get access to new clearance deals, and have more products to choose from as stock availability is at its prime, according to the consumer advocate. Fewer crowds The quietest time to spend time in Target is during the recommended two-hour time slot, between 8am and 10am, QuerySprout explains. Anti-Cop Anthem Kneeler Kaepernick Works Out For NFL Team, Plots Comeback | The Daily Wire
Colin Kaepernick , the former NFL quarterback who alienated fans by leading protests against the National Anthem and likening police officers to pigs, reportedly worked out for the Las Vegas Raiders as he attempts a comeback after five years away from the game. The 34-year-old quarterback, whose last NFL game was in 2017, had a workout with the Raiders Wednesday, according to ESPN . There was no word on how he looked, but he reportedly is ready to accept a backup role to get back into the league. “You don’t bring in a player like this unless you are understanding of the ramifications and everything that comes along with it and what he can do for your offense,” said ESPN’s football maven Adam Shefter. “But he’s been looking for a chance to get back to the National Football League. He knows that he’ll have to come in as a backup, but again, this is something that’s interesting because the Raiders have always been a progressive organization.” Colin Kaepernick is scheduled to … [Read more...] about Anti-Cop Anthem Kneeler Kaepernick Works Out For NFL Team, Plots Comeback | The Daily Wire
Sunak announces £400 energy bill discount for all households and a windfall tax
Every household will get a £400 energy bill discount under an emergency cost-of-living package that will be partly funded by a £5 billion windfall tax on oil and gas giants. Chancellor Rishi Sunak bowed to pressure on Thursday to unveil £15 billion of measures to tackle the impact of soaring inflation, which has reached a 40-year high. As well as the universal payment, there was targeted support for the poorest, the elderly and the disabled in the package that will be two-thirds funded by borrowing. The Chancellor acknowledged that high inflation is causing “acute distress” for people in the country, telling MPs: “I know they are worried, I know people are struggling.” He said the Government “will not sit idly by while there is a risk that some in our country might be set so far back they might never recover”. Sunak poised to U-turn on windfall tax to fund energy bills relief package
Rishi Sunak will cave in to pressure to impose a windfall tax on the soaring profits of oil and gas firms to fund a relief package for households struggling with rising bills. Labour said the Chancellor had been “dragged kicking and screaming” into backing its call for a levy on fossil fuel giants which have benefited from high global prices. Mr Sunak is expected to tell MPs he will scrap a requirement to repay the previously announced £200 discount on energy bills, and could increase the level of the grant. Other measures which could form part of a package worth around £10 billion are expected to be targeted at the poorest households. Shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves welcomed the Chancellor’s U-turn on a windfall tax, after months of Tory opposition to Labour’s calls for a levy.
