Nicola Sturgeon has been accused of working with “anyone so long as they support the break-up of the UK” after meeting Sinn Fein’s vice president at her official residence. The First Minister held talks with Michelle O’Neill at Bute House in Edinburgh, after Sinn Fein became the largest party in the Northern Ireland Assembly for the first time at the Stormont election earlier this month. Ms O’Neill could now become Northern Ireland’s first nationalist first minister, meaning two of the three devolved administrations would be led by parties determined to hold votes on leaving the UK. Ms Sturgeon is expected to unveil legislation shortly for a second independence referendum , to be staged next year, while Sinn Fein wants a vote on Irish reunification . Nicola Sturgeon announced on Friday she had tested positive for Covid, only hours after she held a meeting with Sinn Fein's vice president . The First Minister said she had the virus for the first time "after experiencing mild symptoms" and she would work from home in the coming days. Her disclosure came shortly after she held talks with Sinn Fein's Michelle O’Neill at Bute House in Edinburgh, after it became the largest party in the Northern Ireland Assembly for the first time. Earlier this week, Ms Sturgeon made a two-day trip to Washington at which she made a speech at a think tank and met congressional groups and Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the US House of Representatives.
