Dramatic moment quick-thinking mum saves toddler from choking to death as family watched TV

· March 1, 2021 ·

THIS is the dramatic moment a quick-thinking mum saves her toddler from choking to death - as the family’s TV night takes an unexpected turn. A family of five was captured on CCTV footage while sitting watching TV in their lounge room, when the toddler, who was sitting on the floor, appeared to put something in his mouth. The young boy can then be seen putting his hands over his mouth, at which point his mother springs into action, realising that something isn’t right. The mum stood him up and leant him over, while tapping his back. The object appears to be released from the toddler’s mouth, and he miraculously stops choking. The video was shared by Tiny Hearts Education , an Australian organisation running first aid courses for new parents, as a cautionary message for parents about the dangers of children choking on small objects. “This is hard to watch, but this is real life,” the caption read. “Because this Mama knew basic first aid, she could spring into … [Read more...] about Dramatic moment quick-thinking mum saves toddler from choking to death as family watched TV

When is the 2021 Budget – and what will be in it? Stamp duty, furlough and more

· March 1, 2021 ·

The 2021 Budget will feature everything from booze, fuel and cigarettes to wages, housing and Britain's Covid response. Rishi Sunak is set to focus on four themes - "support, vision, recovery, honesty" - when he addresses the nation in his annual statement next Wednesday. The Tory Chancellor is tipped to extend furlough, the Stamp Duty cut and other Covid support by three months, and the £20-a-week Universal Credit uplift by six months. He will unveil grim financial projections on Britain's economy and begin to sketch a vision for how it'll be made better post-vaccine - with grants of up to £18,000 for lockdown-battered firms to reopen. He could announce a string of other measures to help the economy recover - though some of these, like schemes to push people back into shops and restaurants, may not come until later. And aides promise he'll be "honest" about the need to claw back £280bn of Covid spending - as corporation tax could be hiked and income tax allowances … [Read more...] about When is the 2021 Budget – and what will be in it? Horrifying reality of hospital workers in the pandemic exposed in TV show

· March 1, 2021 ·

For the medics on the frontline of the pandemic life will never be the same again. They have witnessed whole families fight for their lives, seen loved ones torn apart and dealt with staff on the brink of breakdown - and all while enduring their own personal battles. Now, a new film, by Emergency Medicine Doctor, Saleyha Ahsan, exposes the true toll that the pandemic has taken on workers at her hospital, Ysbyty Gwynedd, in Bangor, through the destructive second wave of the virus between November and February. And she wants to show the heartbreaking stories of staff and patients to ensure their struggles haven't gone in vain. Saleyha says: “I feel that I have changed forever. I'm more cynical, I've got level of anxiety that I never used to have before. “We might have the Covid pandemic now but I think we're going to have a mental health pandemic following hot on its heels.” One doctor, Nathan Pictor, is all too aware of how true this is, as he broke down while working on … [Read more...] about Horrifying reality of hospital workers in the pandemic exposed in TV show

Cops fire on protesters in Myanmar killing at least 18 on deadliest day of anti-coup rallies

· March 1, 2021 ·

RIOT cops fired bullets, tear gas, water cannons and stun grenades at pro-democracy protestors in Myanmar killing at least 18 people, revealed the United Nations. The UN's human rights office said it had received "credible information" that throughout Sunday state police fired live ammunition into crowds leading to multiple deaths and leaving dozens more injured. Deaths were reported in cities including Yangon, Dawei and Mandalay leading to the highest single-day death toll among those demanding the restoration of Aung San Suu Kyi following a military coup. "We strongly condemn the escalating violence against protests in Myanmar and call on the military to immediately halt the use of force against peaceful protesters," said UN spokesperson Ravina Shamdasani. Across the country, protesters wearing plastic work helmets and with makeshift shields faced-off with police and soldiers dressed head-to-toe in battle gear. Social media footage showed protesters running away as … [Read more...] about Cops fire on protesters in Myanmar killing at least 18 on deadliest day of anti-coup rallies
