Erik ten Hag to ‘put pressure’ on Manchester United board to sign £70m Cristiano Ronaldo replacement
Erik ten Hag will urge Manchester United ’s hierarchy to break the bank to sign Ajax winger Antony if the club decide to bow to Cristiano Ronaldo ’s transfer request, according to reports. The Portuguese superstar is believed to have asked United chiefs to let him leave Old Trafford this summer – just one year after joining – and does not feel he can compete for silverware at the club. United remain insistent that Ronaldo will not be allowed to leave, while Ten Hag is believed to have been planning his attack around the 37-year-old. But Ronaldo has a queue of potential suitors, including the likes of Roma, Sporting Lisbon, Bayern Munich and even Chelsea, and there is a school of thought that the veteran forward is a poor fit for Ten Hag’s style play. Should United decide to rid themselves of their top scorer from last season – who is also their highest-paid player – they would need to invest in a new attacker. That will be easier said than done, with United … [Read more...] about Erik ten Hag to ‘put pressure’ on Manchester United board to sign £70m Cristiano Ronaldo replacement

Christian Eriksen told he’s not ‘world class’ and ‘underwhelming’ signing for Man Utd
Danny Murphy believes Christian Eriksen is an "underwhelming" signing for Manchester United and claims the Dane is not a "world class" player. Eriksen looks set to end weeks of speculation by moving to Old Trafford from Brentford after verbally agreeing to join the 13-time Premier League champions on a three-year deal. It is a remarkable move for the 30-year-old, whose career appeared to be over 13 months ago following a terrifying cardiac arrest during Denmark's Euro 2020 game against Finland. Despite Eriksen's impressive performances for Brentford after joining them last January, Match of the Day pundit Murphy believes his arrival at Old Trafford is underwhelming. 8 mega-long contracts that backfired as Kalvin Phillips and Darwin Nunez sign 2028 deals
Manchester City have followed Liverpool 's example with Darwin Nunez by handing out a six-year contract to new signing Kalvin Phillips . Premier League champions City have tied England international Phillips down until 2028 following his £42million move from Leeds United , just as their rivals did with Nunez upon his arrival last month. Anything above a three-year deal used to be considered long-term, but it now seems the goalposts are moving. While six might be the new five for transfer negotiators, there have been some even longer contracts dished out over the years - and City and Liverpool will be keeping their fingers crossed that the deals for Phillips and Nunez don't backfire like the following eight did. Truth behind Gabriel Jesus’ poor goal return as Man City star signs for Arsenal
Arsenal have confirmed the £45million signing of Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his squad ahead of their return to Europe. The Brazilian ace, 25, has penned a five-year deal at the Emirates Stadium , where is expected to battle it out with Eddie Nketiah for a starting berth. Under the shadow of Sergio Aguero for much of his career in Manchester, Jesus was reluctant to play second fiddle to new City striker Erling Haaland , who arrived for £51m in May . A peripheral figure during his early years at the Etihad, question marks were raised over his ability in front of goal, but the stats show Jesus has always been a ferocious marksman. Joao Moutinho ends speculation over transfer future to sign one-year deal at Wolves as 36-year-old continues career
JOAO MOUTINHO has signed a new one-year Wolves contract after thrashing out a deal with the club over the weekend. It means the 36-year-old will be in his usual place as he heads into a fifth season at Molineux. Jose Mourinho' s Roma and Porto in his homeland were linked with the midfielder. However the Wolves' fans favourite, who cost a bargain £5million from Monaco in 2018, has decided to stay as he edges closer to his 200th appearance for the Old Gold, who he has made 176 appearances for. Wolves' technical director Scott Sellars said: “In Joao’s time at the club, he’s been vital, bringing real experience and quality to the group, so to get him re-signed is a massive boost for us all.
