Football is on a dangerous “cliff edge” according to Shrewsbury midfielder Dave Edwards. The ex-Welsh international has seen League One Town's FA Cup tie at Premier LeagueSouthampton postponed. The tie was scrapped and may be forfeited by Shrewsbury after a number of players and staff tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday. Other clubs are also facing major challenges with fellow Midlands outfit Aston Villa and Derby being forced to play their kids in the third round amid outbreaks. A footballer who fell in love with a nurse he met as he recovered from a broken ankle in hospital has celebrated 60 years of wedded bliss with his beloved wife. Trevor Meredith, 84, wrote his name into Burnley FC folklore when his winning goal against Manchester City crowned the Clarets champions of England in 1960. But he said his real "lucky break" came a year earlier when he suffered the injury in a reserve game against Leeds United which led to him meeting Eileen, 79. It was while recovering from his broken ankle at Burnley’s Victoria Hospital that Trevor first laid eyes on trainee nurse Eileen and asked her out.
