Peterborough Artists’ Open Studios (PAOS) returns next month with a promise to be bigger and better than ever before, as it marks its 18th year of celebrating the creative talents of local artisans across the city. PAOS members will be showcasing various arts and crafts in their homes, studios, gardens, community hubs and even garden sheds for the public to enjoy. All exhibitions are free entry with no obligation to purchase but an opportunity for visitors to win £100 to spend on art, with our prize draw.Art lovers from far and wide will have more artists and venues to see during Open Studios 2018 with an incredible 108 artists exhibiting at 46 venues. People with an artistic flair or an eye for architecture are being invited to a new summer event in Swadlincote. The Swadlincote Art and Architecture Trail is to take place in the South Derbyshire town on Saturday and Sunday, July 21 and 22. Organisers said the aim of the event is to strengthen the local artistic community and find "interesting and creative solutions" to the lack of space for artists to exhibit in Swadlincote. Artists of any media are being sought, including painting, photography, pottery, glass, wood, metal, textiles, printing, sculptures, music, dance, drama, poetry and comedy. Organisers will also be focusing on the architecture and history of Swadlincote as part of the event. Venues along the High Street have offered to display the artists' work over the weekend as well as the town hall and Sharpe's Pottery Museum. A variety of eclectic exhibits have been collected from over 45 countries in Rejuvenated Junk, a new temporary exhibition arriving at the Heath Robinson Museum on Saturday, June 17. For three months there will be hats made from tin cans, bags made from ring pulls, woven rolled newspaper baskets and boxes, a cheese platter made from a flattened bottle, scoops made from food cans, ear-rings from bottle tops and more. In 1935 Heath Robinson made a set of drawings which he titled Rejuvenated Junk depicting new uses for unwanted objects. Ten of these were used as illustrations for an article written by KRG Browne, published in The Strand Magazine under the title At Home with Heath Robinson. A number of these original drawings will be displayed, along with a reproduction of the article. The Museum’s 21st century take on Rejuvenated Junk, featuring upcycled artefacts from 33 different countries. The exhibition showcases talents from many communities within the borough.
