COVID-19: Sunshine brings crowds out – but SAGE expert warns we could blow chances of ending lockdown

· February 28, 2021 ·

Britons are being warned making the most of warmer weather and sunshine could jeopardise our chances of sticking to the prime minister's reopening road map. Yesterday's warmer temperatures and bright sunshine brought out crowds across the country, with pictures showing packed parks and waterfronts. But professor Calum Semple, an expert in "outbreak" medicine, warned the public to continue sticking to the lockdown rules or we could "blow it". Asked whether crowds could cause case numbers to rise again, professor Semple, who sits on the government's SAGE advisory board, admitted to Sky News: "This is a big worry to us." He added: "Really, we do urge people to take care. Advertisement "We're just not quite there on the road map - we can't take a short cut with people's health." He said the public should remember that 10% of hospital COVID beds are still taken by people aged under 50 with no underlying health problems. UK weather: Sunny weekend continues but freezing temperatures to return next week

· February 28, 2021 ·

Brits will once again be tempted to head outdoors today on another bright and sunny day. Crowds flocked to beaches and parks on Saturday as most of Britain baked in spring-like sunshine. This is despite the country being in a national lockdown, with scientists warning on Friday that people must not "wreck it" now after the government published a "roadmap" out of the crisis last week. There will be more mild and sunny weather today, although it will be windier in the south, with some cool conditions expected on coasts. And by the middle of next week, temperatures are set to drop to as low as freezing again, with the mercury dropping to just 1C in Manchester on Wednesday, according to the BBC. The Met Office said the weather next week should remain dry and bright, although they refuse to rule out colder spells going forward. Its forecast reads: "Confidence is high for this period as local high pressure is expected to give a mostly settled outlook, with any uncertainty … [Read more...] about UK weather: Sunny weekend continues but freezing temperatures to return next week

· February 27, 2021 ·

In the days leading up to Prince George's birth, the world was completely struck by royal baby fever. Camera crews gave live footage from outside the Lindo Wing, where the Duchess of Cambridge was due to give birth to the future king. In a break from royal tradition, Prince William and Kate shared their happy news on Twitter and the traditional notice was put up outside Buckingham Palace, before stepping outside to pose for photos on the hospital steps. But Tim Rooke, one of the royal photographers who spent hours waiting outside the hospital, has shared details of the "chaos" on the day. He says things were so stressful that the Palace ended up coming up with a new system ahead of Princess Charlotte's birth two years later. Speaking to the Express , he said: "I’ve been at the birth of more than five British royal babies, as well as births of royal family members in Denmark and Spain. "My first time photographing a royal baby reveal outside of the hospital was the … [Read more...] about ‘Chaos’ surrounding Prince George’s birth resulted in emergency plan for Charlotte
