A suspected heart attack patient died in the back of an ambulance when it crashed into a wall on the way to hospital. Trevor Bailey chatted to paramedics and walked out to the emergency vehicle before being placed on a stretcher in the back on April 22 last year. His wife Jane said the last thing he told her was: ‘Don’t worry about me, I will be fine. Just look after yourself.’ But minutes later the ambulance had smashed into a brick wall, killing Mr Bailey and leaving one of the people treating him lying in the road with serious injuries. An inquest into his death in Hull has heard how the ambulance set off for Castle Hill Hospital in Cottingham with blue lights flashing and siren blaring.
