The mayoress of Scarborough has shaved her head to raise awareness of the importance of mammograms after being diagnosed with breast cancer. Cherry Smith was diagnosed with stage three, invasive breast cancer in late 2017 following a mammogram screening. The current age bracket when women are routinely offered a mammogram every three years is between the ages of 50 and 70. She is outside the upper age limit to be offered a mammogram, but requested one due to her family’s history of breast cancer. She had no obvious outward signs of breast cancer so had she not gone for the procedure, she would not have known that she had cancer. The mayoress has recently undergone successful surgery to remove the cancer and started her chemotherapy treatment last week. Before her hair starts falling out she has taken the decision to have it all shaved off to shine a spotlight on how crucial mammograms are. Her own hairdresser, Lynn Elwell, of Cutting Edge, agreed to carry out the head shave. … [Read more...] about Scarborough’s Mayoress shaves her head following cancer diagnosis

Miss Sadd-Nejad, 24, thought she might raise £300 by braving the shave for Macmillan but her total has now gone well over £1,000 after not just partner Tom Thynne did the clipping but also other friends and family. People gathered in the skittle alley of The Green Dragon at Market Lavington, near Devizes, last week to see Miss Sadd-Nejad have her long locks cut off. She said: "My hair has always been a part of my image, a part of me and an advert for my job. Whether my hair is blonde or brunette, red or blue or even short or long, my hair has been who I am and what I’m recognized by. "I’m forever surprising people with colour and cut changes to the point where people are waiting to see what I’m going to try out next so I decided to break the mould, break the chain and make a … [Read more...] about Hairdresser lets boyfriend shave her head for charity
