LAUREN Fox was just 21 the first time she got pregnant. At the time she was living with Joe, then 26, her boyfriend of one year. A sickness bug meant the contraceptive pill she’d been taking had failed. Lauren had driven from her home in Torquay to visit her mum Sarah*, then 46, in Bournemouth when she started feeling so exhausted she could barely hold her head up. She suspected a urinary tract infection and visited the doctor, who did a pregnancy test. It was positive. Lauren, now 34, said: "I was in shock about the pregnancy. Then, four days after I found out, I was suddenly sick on the bedroom floor." Next morning, simply rolling over in bed made her sick again. "I was throwing up continuously," she recalled. "By the first week of sickness it was happening 15 times a day." Along with nausea and vomiting, Lauren suffered from debilitating dizziness. Blood tests revealed that her hormone levels were double that of a usual pregnancy. Severe morning sickness
Amy Schumer has revealed that she had to be hospitalised due to severe nausea during the second trimester of her pregnancy, a condition that has also affected the Duchess of Cambridge in the past. The duchess suffered from extreme morning sickness during all three of her pregnancies when carrying Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. The medical term for the condition that the comedian and duchess have both experienced is hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) and while it’s very rare, in some cases it can be dangerous to both mother and child. Posting on Mumsnet, the woman explained her colleague, who is 14 weeks pregnant, has been signed off for six weeks (two weeks at a time) with severe hypermesis - and still has a week left on her sick note. Hypermesis gravidarum is the same extreme morning sickness Kate Middleton suffered from and it strikes one in 100 women in the early stages of their pregnancy. But, by a complete coincidence, the pair have a mutual friend - who has uploaded pics of her colleague on holiday in Greece, where she is still enjoying. Kate Middleton may have assisted awareness of the condition, but it's believed one in 100 women will experience hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) in the early stages of their pregnancy. Excessive nausea and vomiting is completely debilitating, and makes having a normal routine practically impossible. More severe than morning sickness - which in itself is unpleasant enough - it can result in hospitalisation. But when one mum spotted some photos of a colleague who has been signed off work with HG on Facebook, she began to have her doubts... "One of my team at work is 14 weeks pregnant. "She's been off sick for 5 weeks with severe hyperemesis and still has a week left on her sick note (she's being signed off for 2 weeks at a time)," she explained on Mumsnet . Facebook friends with a friend of mine.
