Mum shows how to make old, grubby blankets fluffy again – and they’ll look and feel new in minutes
ADDING a statement throw to your bed or sofa can really take things up a notch - but over time, then tend to look a little shabby and lose all appeal. But rather than buying a new one, a stylist mum has shown how to revive the one you have so it looks brand new - and it's super quick and easy to do. Liz Amaya, from Brisbane, shared a video on Instagram to her 71,000 followers, where she regularly shares household tips, tricks and styling advice. To get your blanket fluffy again you can whip up a homemade solution of bicarbonate of soda, white vinegar and liquid detergent. Posting a clip on her page, she wrote: "How to clean your throw blankets and make them soft again." She said you can wash more than one blanket at a time, but don't include others items in the load. Her method involves putting half a cup of bicarb soda to the washing machine and half of your regular detergent into the detergent drawer. Simon Cowell ‘rows in the street’ with Lauren Silverman before she walks off
Simon Cowell has been spotted having what appeared to be a row with partner Lauren Silverman in the street. Onlookers claimed that talent show mogul Cowell had a 'face like thunder' during the exchange that Lauren 'walked away' from. The X Factor judge and long-term partner Lauren were spotted on a walk with their seven-year-old son Eric and dog when they paused to face each other, in pictures obtained by The Sun. A passer-by told the paper "They seemed to be rowing. Simon had a face like thunder. It appeared to be very fraught. “Lauren turned to move off and Simon put out his hand as if he didn’t want her to walk off." The onlooker said Simon, 61, appeared cross and got his phone out to call someone after crossing to the other side of the road alone. "It was odd they walked in the same direction but not together," said the observer, adding that the couple both looked annoyed. A source close to the family denied there was a quarrel and said the pair are happier than … [Read more...] about Simon Cowell ‘rows in the street’ with Lauren Silverman before she walks off
Yorkshire Ripper victims’ families demand inheritance share as ex-wife says ‘no comment’
Families ripped apart by one of Britain’s worst serial killers are demanding his estate be shared between them. Mystery surrounds what Peter Sutcliffe has left in his will amid claims he owns two plots of land in Scotland. Sutcliffe boasted that one of the Kray twins offered to buy the land gifted to him by a female admirer while in Broadmoor. But Neil Jackson, 62, whose mum Emily Jackson was Sutcliffe’s second murder victim, says his victims should be given compensation if there are any funds available. And he’s asking the Government to intervene to find out the extent of the killer’s property and funds. Neil, who had to identify his mother’s body when he was just 17 years old, “If there is any money or property that he has interest in, it should be divided up and handed to the families he destroyed. “When he murdered my mum 46 years ago, we got no compensation or support. I have never received a penny. “The Government should really look into what property and money … [Read more...] about Yorkshire Ripper victims’ families demand inheritance share as ex-wife says ‘no comment’
Let’s hope casual yet cruel sexism is in the dustbin of history
WHERE were you when you saw the Baby One More Time video? I was lying on my friend Sophie’s pink-carpeted bedroom floor, watching MTV and swigging Malibu from the bottle we’d stolen from her parents’ drinks cupboard. We were 13 and instantly captivated. It may not have been the moon landings or JFK getting shot, but it was era-defining for me. Watching the Framing Britney Spears documentary recently, I felt as queasy as I did sipping that neat Malibu. The fact that her father still has control over nearly every aspect of her life and finances would be shocking enough. But it’s the casual misogyny that is really sobering. We see a teenage Britney being asked in interviews about her breasts and whether she’s a virgin. There’s Justin Timberlake affirming a radio host’s question of whether he f**ked her. I realised this kind of behaviour was rife in the noughties. And how, as a young woman, I accepted it and even perpetuated it. Sixteen-year-old Britney Spears … [Read more...] about Let’s hope casual yet cruel sexism is in the dustbin of history
