Burnley centre-back James Tarkowski is in contention to face Everton at Turf Moor on Saturday (3 March) after recovering from a groin problem, manager Sean Dyche has confirmed. Tarkowski has not featured for the Clarets since the middle of January due to injury but managed to come through a behind-closed-doors match against Preston North End earlier this week unscathed. The 25-year-old, whose performances during the first half of the campaign helped Burnley to seventh, a position they still occupy despite not having won for three months, will likely return against Everton and could be joined in the starting line-up by fellow injury victim Chris Wood, who was included in the squad that slumped to a late draw with lowly Southampton last weekend. "Tarky is certainly back in contention," Dyche said in his press conference, relayed by Burnley Express. "He had no problems and felt fine on Tuesday. Tom [Heaton] needs game-time, but he performed well, and Woody got 90 minutes after 70 last … [Read more...] about Burnley defender James Tarkowski in contention to face Everton, says Sean Dyche
SEAN Dyche said he felt his Burnley side was 'best left alone' on Saturday after going through the entire game without making a sub. The Clarets chief kept his powder dry on the bench despite the presence of returning top scorer Chris Wood amongst the substitutes. It was the first time this season Dyche hasn't made a change from the bench and the first time the XI who started have played the full 90 minutes for Burnley since a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the Championship on February 23, 2016. Dyche admits he was pondering a chance before Ashley Barnes put the Clarets ahead midway through the second half, and once Burnley had the lead he was confident the side would see it. They would have done but for a stroke of misfortune when referee Bobby Madley got in Ashley Westwood's way in midfield, and while Dyche was frustrated with that decision he was happy with his own decision not to make a change. “We were wondering which way it was going to go, and we got on the … [Read more...] about Sean Dyche explains decision to make no subs in Burnley’s draw with Southampton
SEAN Dyche was left frustrated after seeing Southampton snatch a controversial late equaliser at Turf Moor to deny Burnley a first win since mid-December. Ashley Barnes had put the Clarets ahead midway through the second half but in the final minute referee Bobby Madley got in the way of Ashley Westwood and from the turnover of possession Southampton broke and Manolo Gabbiadini slammed home an equaliser on the turn. Turf Moor vented its fury at Madley, but despite the frustration Dyche was pleased with the performance of his side. "The fans were really disappointed, everyone wants to see their team just given a chance, but the performance was solid," the Clarets chief said. "I have mixed feelings on that really. I still think there is more to come. Still think we are moulding the team. "It was solid. We didn’t give a lot away. It’s just so frustrating for everyone involved because the game was going nowhere other than us winning – all we can do is keep … [Read more...] about Burnley 1 Southampton 1: Sean Dyche ‘so frustrated’ as Clarets suffer at the hands of lady luck
JUST when Sean Dyche thought he was starting to reduce the numbers in the treatment room, he has added his own name to the list. “I am out for the season!” the Burnley boss said. “I was devastated.” The Clarets were on only their second day of a warm-weather training trip to Portugal when the manager was struck down by the first thigh injury of his career. “I’ve ruptured my quad when I was feeding the balls in to training,” he said. “The physios were telling me when you concentrate on something else and you try to do something physical that split second moment your brain doesn’t lock in to what it needs to do and my quad ruptured, so one of my quad muscles has got no join. It recovers in about 12 weeks. “I like my running but I can’t run at the minute. “I’ve had loads of injuries, never anything on my thighs. “It was only the second day and I had my leg strapped up. “I fell on the … [Read more...] about Burnley boss Sean Dyche joins the Turf Moor injury list!
SEAN Dyche believes Burnley’s slow and steady growth during his time at the club is helping fans come to grips with the Clarets recent run of results. Burnley have gone 10 Premier League games without a win since the 1-0 success over Stoke City on December 12, which briefly lifted them into the top four. Despite the slump in form the Clarets remain seventh in the Premier League and Dyche credits the fans with being able to see the bigger picture Burnley’s most recent defeat came to a Swansea side who, like the Clarets, settled into the Premier League well after promotion and began to challenge in the top half, but they have gone backwards recently and are now locked in a third successive battle to beat the drop. “I think it shows how hard it is year on year,” Dyche said of that cautionary tale. “Even this season, there will be teams you will think: ‘I wouldn’t have thought they would be there.’ Maybe you didn’t think … [Read more...] about Burnley fans get the big picture despite recent run, says Sean Dyche
