Europa League final: The fall and rise of Rangers
Any club that survives for 150 years knows the highs and the lows. At Ibrox, the highs have seen dizzying spells of domination, the lows have been as bleak as they get. It is though the last decade in which Rangers have added a chapter that might be called "the fall and rise" but that would not quite capture the magnitude of the turmoil Rangers found themselves in back in 2012. The hordes of buoyant Rangers fans landing in Seville ahead of the Europa League final were in a very different place 10 years ago - there were tears outside the gates of Ibrox as the news was confirmed that this famous old club was to be liquidated. Mum forced to choose between paying rent or bills and uses candles for heating
A single mum whose electricity bill soared to £760 a month says she can’t afford to heat her home anymore and uses candles for light. Nicola Elson, 32, was spending more on energy bills than on her rent, and says it isn’t sustainable. The mum-of-five has had to send her children to stay with their dad because she doesn’t want them in her flat when she can’t heat it or turns the lights on. Nicola has lived at her two-bed flat in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, Scotland, for just over a year and spends the majority of her salary on her electricity meter. She moved into her flat in March 2021 and she says she needed to put around £140 on her Pay As You Go meter every week to see her through at first. The figure has increased over time to up to £190 a week, which comes to more than her rent of £475 a month. She rang up her provider, ScottishPower, to enquire why she was paying so much and says she was told that it was due to her appliances. At the time, she only used a … [Read more...] about Mum forced to choose between paying rent or bills and uses candles for heating

Europa League: Joe Aribo on verge of cementing Rangers’ legacy
Joseph Ayodele Aribo has been a key part of a Glasgow Rangers team chasing their second European title. Wednesday’s Europa League final against Eintracht Frankfurt in Seville will be Aribo’s 65th game of a season where he has played almost everywhere for the Gers. His versatility has made him one of coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst's most-trusted players. And while he may look thin and fragile, there is a lot of power in his sinewy frame. The 25-year-old Londoner moved to Rangers in 2019 after a successful time with Charlton Athletic, where he helped the club gain promotion into the Championship. During his early days in Glasgow, he thrived under Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, winning the club‘s young player award in his first season. The next year he contributed eight goals to help the team to their first Scottish Premiership title in a decade. He became a Nigeria international after qualifying through his parents and scored in his first two games for the Super Eagles … [Read more...] about Europa League: Joe Aribo on verge of cementing Rangers’ legacy
