Today we can reveal the finalists in the 2018 Cheshire School Awards competition. Every year the judging of this popular competition gets tougher and tougher as the number and quality of entries consistently increases. The incredible achievements of schools across the region will be celebrated in the Greater Manchester Schools Awards. The awards, now in their fifth year, are FREE to enter and open to all primary, secondary and independent schools across the region’s 10 boroughs. There are nine categories and we welcome nominations from schools themselves - or staff, governors, parents, students or people in the community. Among last year’s winners was Pictor Academy, an outstanding special needs school in Timperley, Trafford. Staff and pupils scooped the Primary School of the Year award. Newman RC College in Chadderton, Oldham, took home Secondary School of the Year after, sponsored by The Manchester College, after wowing judges with its journey from the closure and amalgamation of two schools six years ago. Headteacher of the Year was awarded to Stephen Lawler-Smith, of Moorside Community Primary School in Swinton, Salford. It is the only school in Gozo to be recognised with the Label, and in total only 11 schools from Malta achieved it. eTwinning is the community for schools in Europe and was launched in 2005 as the main action of the European Commission’s eLearning Programme. The eTwinning School Label was introduced in 2017 to recognise and reward the involvement, commitment, and dedication of not only individual eTwinning teachers, but also teams of teachers and school leaders within the same school. The organisers said that 1,211 schools have been awarded the Label, and said that they are pioneers and recognised as leaders in areas such as: Digital practice; eSafety practice; Innovative and creative approaches to pedagogy; Promoting continuous professional development of staff; Promoting collaborative learning practices with staff and students.
