DANNIELLA Westbrook has claimed she saved her ex Brian Harvey's alleging she called paramedics when he tried to kill himself. The EastEnders star made the claims about her former boyfriend, who she dated from 1991 to 1995, on Monday in a 30-minute Instagram video. She alleged: "I've been there calling ambulances for that boy when he's trying to throw himself off the top of the thing and kill himself. "I've been there for him, you know what I mean? I've been there." "I have a lot of love for Brian but don't call me things that aren't true. I've been through enough," she said referencing the recent claims Brian made against her. "I won't let you do that to me Brian, I won't. I'm sorry, I won't. Just because you have a bee in your bonnet and you've watched me do lives and stuff". Former East 17 frontman Brian, 46, claimed on Monday that Danniella had put his life in danger by introducing him to members of a peadophile gang at a club and branded her a "murderer" . … [Read more...] about Danniella Westbrook says she saved ex Brian Harvey’s life when he tried to kill himself by calling paramedics

Don’t ignore your cough – it could be Covid or lung cancer, warns Dr Zoe
IT has been drilled into us all that a new and persistent cough is a symptom of Covid. I am sure I’m not alone in apologising when I’ve coughed in public, followed quickly by a reassuring: “It’s not Covid .” Given the past year, it is unsurprising if we are acutely aware of any cough or splutter – and it is only natural if our first thought is of Covid. If you notice a cough as well as the other classic symptoms – a high temperature or a loss of taste and/or smell – then there's a chance it's caused by coronavirus. The best thing to do is isolate and get a test to be sure. But if your test result is negative and your cough persists, the NHS is urging people to act. The new Help Us, Help You lung cancer campaign, which launched this week, warns that almost half of us don’t realise a cough that lasts for longer than three weeks could be a sign of lung cancer. The message is this: If you don’t have Covid but you do have a cough that isn’t getting better, speak … [Read more...] about Don’t ignore your cough – it could be Covid or lung cancer, warns Dr Zoe
Brave woman, 67, defies the odds to beat THREE different types of cancer in 25 year battle
A BRAVE woman who lost her sister and her mum to cancer has overcome the disease for the third time. Jackie Beattie has had bowel cancer, liver cancer and breast cancer. The 67-year-old from Middlesbrough calls herself a “survivor” and is now telling her story for the first time. Jackie’s ordeal began in 1996 when she started having some uncomfortable feelings in her stomach. She was just 42-years-old at the time and said she had always had some issues with her tummy and “never really looked poorly”, but said she went to the doctors anyway just to be sure. Speaking to The Sun Jackie said: “I was always very big and had some problems with my tummy. “I’d had a few types of investigations but I ended up having to go to hospital, my husband Don was with me and we went in together. “They said ‘you have lymphoma’ and I just sat there staring blankly and I said ‘what’s that’ and they said ‘it’s cancer’.” BACK TO NORMAL Luckily Jackie was able to donate her own stem … [Read more...] about Brave woman, 67, defies the odds to beat THREE different types of cancer in 25 year battle
Koala rescue: An orphaned joey, and her species’ fight for survival
One morning in February, after the worst of Australia's devastating bushfires had smoldered out, Kailas Wild headed out into the charred blue gum plantations of Kangaroo Island, off the country's southern coast. A tree surgeon who had come to the island to help rescue koalas in the aftermath of the blaze, Wild was worried to see how much of the foliage that they depend on for food was burned. Then, something else caught his eye: a gaunt baby koala curled up in the blackened leaves, her coat visibly scorched. Read more: Learning to live with Australia's maligned 'priority pest' dingo "She was the first injured, orphaned joey I found — the most overwhelming and upsetting sight, I just felt so bad for her," Wild recalls. Wild scaled the tree, caught the little joey, and drove her an hour to Kangaroo Island's animal hospital. "The whole time I thought, I'm just doing this to save you from worse suffering," he says. Wild wept as he handed the tiny creature to the vets, … [Read more...] about Koala rescue: An orphaned joey, and her species’ fight for survival
Budget 2021: Minimum wage to rise for workers in April – see how your pay is changing
Millions of people will see their wages rise on April 1, when new minimum wage rates come into force in England. Basic rate workers will get a 2.2% increase, Rishi Sunak said, with the National Living Wage rising to £8.91 an hour. For the first time, the government's highest rate will also include those aged 23 and over - workers who previously fell under the lower wage bracket. This means 23 and 24-year-olds who are currently on £8.20 an hour will see their pay jump by 71p to £8.91 next month. However, the increase is a U-turn on the 49p an hour promised last March. It equates to a pay rise of just 19p an hour for basic-rate workers - the majority of whom have already taken a 20% hit over the past year due to mandatory furlough. It comes as the current Universal Credit total sits at 6million. Unions accused the Chancellor of "letting down" thousands of vulnerable people who are trapped in financial hardship. "Workers on the national minimum wage - not least the two … [Read more...] about Budget 2021: Minimum wage to rise for workers in April – see how your pay is changing
