Last year NHS England chief executive Simon Stevens challenged trusts to reduce the sale of sugar-filled drinks to 10% or less of those bought on the premises. The health body said 87% of trusts have now acted and the proportion of drinks with added sugar sold on NHS premises has been cut from 15.6% to 8.7%, successfully meeting the challenge. The reduction equates to roughly 39,000kg of sugar and more than 160,000,000 fewer calories. Last year NHS England said sugary drinks would be banned if trusts failed to take action, at a point when more than a third had still not joined the scheme. Campaigners working to save a Southport pub for community use have been dealt a huge blow with the site likely to be sold to a property developer. The Blundell Arms Community Pub group want to save the Blundell Arms, on Upper Aughton Road in Birkdale, to use as a community pub and dementia cafe. The group’s ambitious plans would also see it feature a wheelchair-accesible farm garden, microbrewery, events such as ‘Distil your own Gin’ nights, and meeting rooms for community groups. But the group now faces the prospect of those plans disappearing after owner Star Pubs and Bars turned down their bid for the pub and are instead continuing talks with a property developer. That developer has … [Read more...] about Group battling to save Southport pub dealt blow as sale nears

At the very least, you would imagine that £185,000 per week would rent you a mansion in exclusive St George’s Hill where you can swing from the Borghese crystal chandeliers (should you so desire) and quaff champagne by the swimming pool-load. So you might be shocked to learn that the most expensive property rental in Surrey listed on Rightmove this month (and probably in the history of man) is not a palatial pad in Weybridge but... erm... a one bedroom flat in Wallington. An 18-month rental term would probably just about polish off their entire winnings... (taking into account council tax, bills, etc) And there’s no haggling for a few … [Read more...] about Is this the most expensive flat rental in Surrey … ever?
