In London, Labour’s takeover by the hard Left is under way. In Haringey, the moderate council leader, Claire Kober, has been forced out. In Newham, Sir Robin Wales, the respected mayor, has been deselected. In Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark, battles rage between moderates and Momentum, the Left-wing campaign group. Councillors are being turfed out, and bullying, sexism, and anti-Semitism are rife. Nobody expects Jeremy Corbyn to intervene, but where in all this is the Mayor of London? Sadiq Khan is the most powerful elected Labour politician in Britain. He is uniquely placed to confront the hard Left head on. Yet – facing reselection by the London Labour Party this summer – he refuses to do so. This week, as Momentum picketed Labour HQ, calling for a purge of moderate staffers, an interview with the mayor appeared in London’s Evening Standard . Asked about the hard Left, all he could say was: “I thrive on engaging with new members, including those from Momentum.” This is … [Read more...] about Mayor of London Sadiq Khan is failing the entire country through his political cowardice

Sadiq Khan’s cannabis drive represents all that is wrong with the Labour Party
Most people seem to have missed the biggest political story of the last couple of days: that Sadiq Khan has given up any ambition to become prime minister. Of course, this is more implicit than explicit, but his actions and words can hardly be mistaken for anything other than a renunciation of what most of us assumed was his former determination to “do a Boris”. Indeed, I may have been wrong all along, because let’s face it, which politician with a feel for the mood of the nation would imagine that what the country needs at this time of crisis is more recreational drug use ? As the capital’s mayor, Khan has set up a commission to examine the effectiveness of current drug laws, … [Read more...] about Sadiq Khan’s cannabis drive represents all that is wrong with the Labour Party

Cabinet minister mocked for having FOUR ovens – latest in a string of home gaffes by out-of-touch politicians
A CABINET minister has been brutally mocked after it emerged he has four ovens in his kitchen - but it's not the first at-home gaffe by a politician. Housing Secretary James Brokenshire did a photoshoot which showed he and his wife own two double ovens. He was accused of being out of touch and living a lavish lifestyle . Labour MP Stephen Pound joked: "Unless he’s running a pizza business on the side, he must have some very hungry friends." But Mr Brokenshire later made light of the row, posting a picture online of a cake he made in the kitchen. He quipped: "Amazing what you can rustle up! Maybe some more hot potatoes next! #twoovens" The minister follows a string of other politicians who've been publicly ridiculed over their domestic arrangements. Amazing what you can rustle up!
