Pep Lijnders admits that Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves is the type of player who would interest Liverpool. The Reds' assistant boss is a big admirer of the 22-year-old Portugal international, who he worked with during his time as a youth coach at Porto. Lijnders spent seven years at the Porto Academy after arriving in 2007 and helped bring through an exciting generation of talent including Neves, Diogo Dalot, Andre Gomes, Andre Silva and Joao Felix. Neves has enhanced his reputation since moving to Wolves in 2017 – helping them earn promotion and then mount a challenge for European qualification this season. Asked about the development of Neves, Lijnders told Portuguese newspaper O Jogo: “I know him very well, his ambition, his passion for the game, his professionalism. “I know what he gives to the team and this type of player always interests us. “I recognised him when I saw him at Wolves. I saw technique, professionalism. I saw the 2013/14 player I … [Read more...] about Why Ruben Neves is the type of player on Liverpool’s radar

The question should not be can Plymouth Argyle afford to keep Ruben Lameiras when his contract ends this summer? It should be can they afford to be without the Portuguese-born playmaker next season? There was further evidence of the ever-increasing influence of Lameiras in the Pilgrims’ 2-2 draw with Bristol Rovers at Home Park on Saturday. Without Graham Carey because of a back problem, the responsibility for attacking inspiration rested largely on his slight shoulders. Lameiras did not shirk from that task, the complete opposite in fact, as he revelled in a different role within the team. He played in a central attacking position, behind out-and-out striker Freddie Ladapo, as Argyle manager Derek Adams adjusted to the absence of Carey. Lameiras popped up in pockets of space, giving Rovers’ defensive midfielder Ed Upson lots of problems. The 24-year-old also came up with his 12th goal of the season when he opened the scoring for the Pilgrims with a superb 51st minute … [Read more...] about Can Argyle afford for Ruben Lameiras to leave for free this summer?
Derek Adams has revealed the reason why he cannot offer Plymouth Argyle ace Ruben Lameiras a new contract yet. It is because the Pilgrims’ boss has not been told his budget for next season by the club’s board of directors. Lameiras has been hugely influential in Argyle’s turnaround in fortunes since the start of 2019. He is their second top scorer this season with 11 goals and has caused opposition defences all sorts of difficulties with his movement and skill on the ball. Lameiras will be out of contract this summer and is sure to have plenty of suitors for his services. However, Adams is not in a position to discuss a new deal with the 24-year-old Portuguese-born playmaker. Adams told Plymouth Live: “I can’t do that to any player at this moment in time. I don’t have a budget to work with so I can’t go into any details with any players for next year.” When asked when he expected that to change, Adams replied: “I don’t know. … [Read more...] about Why Argyle have not offered a new contract to Ruben Lameiras yet
